I towed the full length of it once.. with a small Pop Up.. that was bad enough, but it was the only way in after "The Fires" in 03.
I'll not do that again..
Don't anyone do it for a first time. The locals can be brutal You'll get stuck. Bears will eat you then. (If the locals don't get to you first)
Linda, what is your show? Are you parading the cat?

No, Dallas has given up any hope of being a show cat for being a good guard cat. We will be selling at an antique paper show in Glendale the next weekend. I know, I know, what in the world is antique paper. Books, photos, postcards, journals, prints. Anything made of paper. About 2400 pounds of paper and display shelves. But it is all in the back of the truck so it shouldn't get in the way of camping. The only thing is we will have to leave our pink flamingos home.

Dallas is far too important to parade around onstage.
PM me for places to stay between camp time and show time. There are lots of nice FS campground up here that are virtually deserted mid week, as well as a few county campgrounds with hook ups. There is one private place here across from the lake as well that I enjoy, but the best spots are dry camping.

Hi Bobbie.
It only takes about 5 minutes from Crestline to the campsite.
From Fresno, expect 6 hours or so (?) if you go 99 to 58 to 395 to 15 etc.

I would go over Tehachapi, most likely, not through LA.
But I'm just thinking. It sounds like a nice site.

Down I5 isn't as good as 99 as from 99 you don't backtrack to take off towards Tehachapi. But see what Mapquest says.

From I-5 from Albany...
at Stockton, take the 4 east to the 99 south.
99 south goes for a lot of miles, and you will be rewarded with... Bakersfield
at Bakersfield, take the 58 east, over Tehachapi and down into... your next reward ... Mojave (Home of the dead airplane)
countinue on the 58 east through Boron.. home of Borax (Yes, really...) and then on to the 395. (Kramers Junction)
Go south on the 395 to the 15, take that south to the 215 south and to the best reward of all... San Bernardino.
Follow the the map from there!
There is a LOT of nothing from Mojave to the 15.... don't dispare.. it's just desert..it really does go somewhere.

I wouldn't do the 46... I-5 is way west of the 99 there. You will be doing 2 sides of a triangle.. at Stockton, you veer at a diagonal.
The 99 is actually modern freeway, 2 to 4 lanes all the way from Stockton. It isn't what you see on TV.

Mapquest has me turning on 138 from I-5 to Lancaster to Palmdale on hwy14 until we turn off on 138 again and go to old mill rd then lake drive then friendly and we are there. Only 951 miles. Easy. But I was just concerned with not coming in the back way that Gina said was so terrible. Is 138 the back way?

10: Turn LEFT onto CA-138. 2.4 miles Map
11: Turn RIGHT to stay on CA-138. 15.0 miles Map
