Know a great campground between San Francisco and Oregon you would definitely return to? Scenic, hiking, nice sites with or without hookups?

Probably our favorite campground, we return to it every year. About 4 hours north of San Francisco on Hwy 101. Huge redwoods along side the Eel river with hundreds of yards of river frontage to swim and sun. There is so much beach you never have to be near anyone else at the water. Dogs are welcome. Slightly south is Standish Hickey state park, a few miles north is Benbow State Park, and further north is Prarie Creek Redwoods State Park. All are wonderful. No hookups but there is water and hot showers. I've been able to get in weekdays but weekends require reservations well in advance. John

Our favorite is Elk Prairie CG at Prairie Creek Redwoods SP, south of Klamath. Most of the sites are in the redwoods with a few sites in the meadow area used for overflow. We like the sites in the redwoods by the creek, but if you like the meadow area, #70 is a good site. There are Roosevelt elk herds all over the place, even at the beach. The beach is a short drive, 2 or 3 miles. There are many trailheads and bike trails and beautiful scenic drives. Piped water and showers available. You might want to make reservations, especially for a weekend or holiday week.
