So what's the deal? Will it be 13-16 October? What is the name of the campground? How do I register (assuming you will let my Burro and me attend?) That would be about the right distance for a trip down from Central VA.

OK, CindyJ, I understand now that I reread your last post. I hope I will be able to get in on this event... will check my dates. I used to play (around with) the mountain dulcimer... even played it at the Old Time Fiddlers' Convention @ Galax back in the '90s. I haven't done anything requiring more talent than playing the stereo for years now, but maybe I can drag out a dulcimer or two and find a few tunes still lurking therein!

Cindy J -

I posted over in the Scamppers Yahoo! group - Michele and I **MAY** be able to make it here. We have the Burney Falls gathering mid September, then we are FREE. We only want to be home by, say, the end of October. So this fits in time wise.

It is just above the 2,200 foot level... what should we anticipate for weather?

I saw that you have a block of sifes sort of semi reserved. Do you figger on a full house? We went to the Hil-A-Palloza in Texas in March 2010 and since we generally have smaller trailers, they were able to double us up in some sites. Anyway, thanx for hosrting - will update you if we can pull it off.

Glad to hear from you all.. Last year we had 23 but they dont let you double up at this campground. There was a man that came last year could play any kind of instrument maybe if he comes he can help you get started playing again. Thanks for your replies.

CindyJ,
Count me in. I have booked my reservations for Oct 13-16. Don't expect anything musical from me if you don't want everyone to leave. Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Jim, See CindyJ's posts on this thread, page 2, entry #21 and 25. She has the link to the campground. Paddler? Does that mean kayaks? My setup is 16' Scamp with kayaks on the roof of my tow vehicle. My idea of the perfect way to travel. See you in Cherokee..

Just set up our reservations for nights Oct 13-15.

The lady said the GPS cordinates on their web site are not accurate.

She said to use 777 Casino Drive--zip code 28719. it will also get you within a few miles and on the correct road.

However their old address of 1553 Wolfetown Rd is shown to be in Whittier NC. Seems we used that last time and it got us almost there.
Everything was correct except it stopped us about a mile from the park, but on the right road. US-19

Highway 19 and Wolfetown are, or were, the same Road last year. But they have been doing some name changing.

The Casino is at the corner of 441BR and Hyway 19. The Camp ground is approximately 3 miles from that intersection. East I think. Last year the GPS stopped us at 1.9 miles from the Camp Ground. So we just had to go another mile.

Would be nice if somebody had some good cordinates.

Kip,

Would these work?
GPS Coordinates N35* 28.381 W 083*14.728

From their website;
Happy Holiday RV Village, Directions, Cherokee, NC 877-782-2765

I put those in the GPS originally. The route it took me did not look at all familar.

Called the lady and she said those coordinates don't work.

From what I can tell the Wolfetown Rd, Whittier NC thing is what we used last year and got to within 1 mile of the camp ground. We were on the right road.

Would be great if someone could stop there and punch the "Where am I" feature on their GPS. The cordinates would come up and they could post it for others. Actually a campground employee could do the same thing and change their web site cordinates.

We gona be there one way or the other. We have site 101.

Good Grief.

Ask at the local gas station, or here's a map:

And here are the actual DIRECTIONS as posted on the website!

From the East (Asheville, North Carolina):

Follow I-40 West to Exit 27 which is Hwy 74
Follow Hwy 74 for 31 miles (Do NOT take Hwy 19 towards Maggie Valley and Cherokee unless you want to travel on a mountain road with 7% grade)
Take Exit 74 which is Hwy 441 North to Cherokee and the Great Smoky Mountains
Go 4 miles to the second traffic light
Turn right onto Hwy 441 North Business
Go 1 mile to stoplight and turn right onto Hwy 19 North
Go 3 miles to Happy Holiday which is on the left

From the West (Knoxville, Tennessee)
Follow I-40 East to Exit 20 which is Hwy 276 South
Go 10 miles to stoplight and turn left, still following 276 South (DO NOT take Hwy 19 towards Maggie Valley and Cherokee unless you want to travel on a mountain road with 7% grade)
Follow 276 South to stoplight and turn right
Go 1 miles and turn right onto Hwy 74 West
Follow Hwy 74 West for 25 miles to exit 74 and turn right onto 441 North
Go 4 miles to the second traffic light
Turn right onto Hwy 441 North Business
Go 1 mile to stoplight and turn right onto Hwy 19 North
Go 3 miles to Happy Holiday which is on the left

From the South (Atlanta, GA):
Follow I-85 North to I-985
Take I-985 to Hwy 23. Hwy 23 will join with Hwy 441 North
Follow 23/441 North until it joins Hwy 74
Follow Hwy 74 West/441 North to Exit 74
Take Exit 74 which is Hwy 441 North to Cherokee and the Great Smoky Mountains
Go 4 miles to second traffic light
Turn right onto Hwy 441 North Business
Go 1 mile to stoplight and turn right onto Hwy 19 North
Go 3 miles to Happy Holiday which is on the left

Hope this helps

Francesca
