Oct 26-28, 2012: Fall / Halloween Egg Rally, in central Pa.

Here are some pictures from the Burnt Cabins trip last year. I contacted them and they have sites available for a group for the last weekend in October. The leaves should be in full color then. Their rates are $31/night with Good Sam and Woodalls 10% discounts available. This is for water/electric/cable/wifi.
There is also a pavilion which I reserved for our meals for friday/saturday in case of foul weather. As you can see the sites are large and if you want to double up you may. Their sandwiches and flour are scrumptious.
here is the link to their site Burnt Cabins Grist Mill
They also are having a trick or treat activity for the children that weekend, fun for all.

Burnt Cabins Grist Mill CG

Cute little CG located in Pennsylvania foot hills, make their own flour on site with their Grist Mill.

Oh wow, Jim. You scared me there for a moment. Thought the wildfires had burned cabins at a CG someplace, lol. Glad to know that wasnt the case. Looks so peaceful. Whatever you're eating looks delicous!

Sorry, that is the name of the CG, there is some history behind it. These photos were taken last November.

History of the name: William Penn promised the Indians the western half of PA. The burned cabins belonged to white people who were squatters. They were burned by the Pennsylvania authorities (I think I have this right. I suspect one of those squatters was an ancestor/relative of mine.)

Correct, they burned the cabins to protect the squatters from being harmed by the native americans.
By the way, the Grist Mill is still in operation and there are tours, really interesting inside. You can buy all kinds of flour in the little shop and you see what the homemade sandwiches look like, I'm getting hungry.......

Looks great! I don't know about getting a weekend off that close to Halloween (I work in a fabric/craft store), but we'll try. When do you get your Escape Jim?

It is suppose to leave Chilliwack on 7/13 and arrive around the 19-20th this month here in York, Pa.
Burnt Cabins is supposedly having a Halloween festival for the children that weekend also!

Wish we could. I love PA. We have visited Huntingdon twice (My ancestors came from there.) and stayed at one of the cleanest campgrounds I have ever seen in Altoona. We golfed at Standing Stone Creek and visited Fort Roberdeau. Another trip, again following a different ancestor, visited Valley Forge, Brandywine (great park!), Paoli (Ever heard of it? Neither had I until I found an ancestor wounded there. It was like "Remember the Alamo!" early in the Rev.), and stayed at a great KOA on the Brandywine River.
I would love to be there with you, but during the school year, it is tough.

I'm supposed to meet up next month in Niagara Falls a bunch of people from NY who have expressed their interest, some who attended the EggFest this summer @ Nittany Mtn in June. Once I obtain info I'll post it. It is a nice park so I'll be going, if not for the colors but also for the food.

We're starting to think about it too. We just have to figure out whether we'll be ready to head south that early.

Hop, skip and jump for us. Waiting for the pays your money sign up protocol. I retired in early Aug. Since then I have resealed the rooftop AC, rebedded the rear window, changed my TV mount such that I can see it from both the master suite and the spacious breakfast nook (nookish breakfast space may be closer to the truth), and installed a highly intelligent replacement converter in place of the reputedly "low IQ" battery-boiling original. (I note that it wasn't smart enuf to install itself!) Well, it is a little house on the driveway; home maintenance never ceases.

Contact the cg tomorrow and mention my name- Jim Norman or the Egg Rally, any issues let me know. Do you think we should reserve a pavilion in the event of rain (or snow?)

Jim and Company,

Brenda and I hope to be there since we missed things this summer. We just need a few more things to fall into place.

BTW This weekend we are heading to the KOA we were at last year, then traveling to the beach in our casita. Finally, a solid 7 day camp .

Hope to see ya'll there and to sneak many a peak at Jim's new 19!
