A favor please....

If you find it necessary to cancel your registration for PineKnot-V, please send an email to pineknotfest[at]yahoo.com . Be sure to put "Cancellation" in the subject line. This is necessary because we can not always reconcile your screen name with your real name and/or email address.

Thanks,
Paul S

A copy of an email sent to all who have registered for PineKnot V ......

To all who have registered for PineKnot-V….

(If you have cancelled, you will be receiving this also)

We got of to a good start in planning PK-V, only to discover that our campground-of-choice, Whispering Pines, had decided to limit us to only fifty-nine campsites. Our registrations kept rolling in and it was not long until we had far passed that number. (We are now at seventy-six). Not wishing to turn anyone away—and after giving Whispering Pines an opportunity to come up with more spaces—the decision was made to move the rally to Salmon Lake Park in Grapeland , Texas . This change was not easily made, but we feel that the majority of “PineKnotters” will approve.

Salmon Lake Park may lack a few of the amenities found at the more developed resorts. However, it does offer full hookups to a multitude of flat, grassy pads. There is a large recreation building for our use. There are no tables, benches, etc. at the individual sites, so you need to bring your own if you need one. Also bring along your folding camping chairs. The park features some historic buildings, old trucks and cars, antique farm machinery, and lots of charm.

The events will remain about the same. However, in place of the “U-Cook It” we had planned, we hope to have a catered bar-b-q dinner Thursday evening. (Final details will have to be worked out, but the cost will be about $6.50—more or less). We will have the Pot-Luck on Friday and a Left-Over Pot-Luck in conjunction with a Dutch Oven dinner on Saturday. (For all group meals, you will need to bring your own plates, flatware, and drinks). Pat H. will be conducting some craft classes which the ladies—and gents?—will not want to miss. Tom and Martha Jo will be in charge of breakfast again. I’ll be posting a schedule of all events on the forums as the date draws nearer.

There is no need to register with Salmon Lake Park ! We will handle all the registrations and collect the money. The nightly rate is only $18.00. You are welcome to come a few days early and stay a few nights over, at the same rate. When you arrive, there will be signs posted directing you to our area. Go there, choose your spot, and hook up. You do not need to stop at the office, even if you arrive early. You will pay at the registration table in The Sunshine Inn, our rec building. (Robert and/or I will be there for early arrivals).

Should you need to cancel for any reason, please do so as soon as possible. Send an email to pineknotfest[at]yahoo.com. Be sure to put "cancellation" in the subject line.

I feel that you will have no regrets as you hook up and leave PineKnot-V behind.

See you there!

Paul S

PS: Susan and Terry will not be able to attend this year so we need someone to host the pet show. Any volunteers?

The subject of a "Wine Tasting" and/or Beer Exchange keeps popping up. Those of you who have attended the previous four PineKnots can attest to the fact that neither of these events was on any of these prior programs. Robert and I discussed this on Saturday. Our position is that we do not want to include either or both on the program this year. If anyone wants to organize it, we suggest you arrange this on your own and have it during some "free" time--such as on Thursday night after dinner. We had rather NOT have it on the "official" program and do not want any responsibility for it.

(This is a copy of an email that was sent today to PineKnot-V registrants)

PINEKNOT-V—Only a month from now…

Meanwhile, we need some information from you.

#1. We are planning to have a catered bar-b-q dinner on Thursday evening. The menu will include brisket and sausage, plus beans, cole slaw, and other trimmings. The cost will depend upon how many will participate, but it will be in the neighborhood of $6.50-$7.50 per person. We need to know if you want to attend.

#2. Grapeland has a very good buffet restaurant which serves down-home country cookin'. It is located in a historic store building. They are not normally open on Saturdays, but I talked with the manager/cook and he said he would open if he knew a group of our size would be there. We need to know if you are interested in this. The cost will be around $9.00, which will include a drink and the best ‘nanner puddin’ you ever ate. (You can order from the menu if you choose).

#3. Last time, several asked about printed, custom tee-shirts. I have a local source that will do some for us. They will have our logo, location, and dates on them. The price depends upon how many want one. If we order 100 or more, the cost will be around $9.00 each. We need to know how many to order.

Please reply to this message at yahoo.com]pineknotfest[at]yahoo.com with the following information.

#1. Will you participate in the bar-b-q?
#2. Are you interested in eating at a buffet restaurant on Saturday at noon?
#3. Do you want a tee-shirt? How many?

TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE. PLEASE REPLY SOON.

(As of 8/28/2009, we have 75 units registered, with a total of 139 persons.)[/font]

AUGUST 29 UPDATE>>NO TEE-SHIRTS: Based upon initial responses, having souvenir tee-shirts will not be feasible.

<span style="font-family:Microsoft Sans Serif">IF YOU HAVE NOT REPLIED...

... to the questions about attending the Thursday evening bar-b-q and the Saturday noon buffet, please do so ASAP to: yahoo.com]pineknotfest[at]yahoo.com.

Forty-five have replied already and we need to hear from you. Your failure to respond will not keep you from attending either event, but we would like to have a more precise count.

Thanks,

It's only 22 days before PK-V officially begins. I realize some of you may be leaving home within the next few days, so let me remind you of a few things....

1. Be sure to bring your folding chairs and tables if you need them for use at your campsite. The chairs will come in handy at the Crime Stoppers Band program on Friday night.

2. It is my understanding that you do not need to stop at the campground office. Simply procede directly to our area and pick out your own site.

3. When you enter Salmon Lake Park, go past the residence/office and ticket booth. Drive to the flag poles and turn left. Go to the end of the road and you will have seen a bunch of little white trailers--that is, unless you get there before Robert and me.

4. When you register with Robert, or Karen, or Paul, or whoever, they will collect your "rent" for the number of nights you wish to stay. At that time, they will also collect the $10 registration fee and the money for the Thursday night BBQ, for those who will be attending that.

5. If you have not emailed us as to whether or not you will attend the BBQ and Saturday Buffet, please do so NOW.

6. Robert has sent me a rough draft of the program, which I have not had time to post as yet. However, activities start Thursday morning, so you might want to come early. In fact, you might consider coming Wednesday. The BBQ will be served at 6PM on Thursday; The Pot Luck will be at 5:30 on Friday, and the band will play at 6:30. A left-over pot luck and a closing get-together will be on Saturday evening. There will be a drawing for door prizes Saturday evening also). Various work groups, craft classes, discussions, etc. will be held during all three days. (I will try to get the program finished in a day or so).

7. AND---a reminder about Salmon Lakes' "No Alcohol" policy. They do not object to it as long as it is not consumed in the public areas, such as the fishing pond, swimming lake, etc. I have been assured that it is OK to imbibe within our own area.

8. I am probably leaving something out, so I will post again as things come to mind.

We have had another un-cancellation or two. Right now, we have 77 units signed up, making about 140 fine folks who will be attending.

The bar-b-q has been ordered...

The band is confirmed...

The Cafe & Creamery on Main says they will feed us Saturday at noon....

Karan has the pet show organized....

Pat is ready to teach us how to be crafty....

Tom has his Dutch oven all seasoned and ready to cook....

Larry and Don are prepared to tell us about mods and repairs....

The weather forcast says the temperature will be mild...

The grass is green....

The birds are singing.....

And Robert is still "Fuller Bull" ....

SO... everything is coming together for a great rally.

There have been a few cancellations, so if you have wanted to come and have put off registering, you are still welcome to attend. Register by going to and completing the PineKnot-V Registration Form. (The registration form will come to us. We'll keep a list and you will sign in with us at the campground. No need to contact Salmon Lake Park). But do it NOW, please.

This will probably be the last posting before the rally.

See y'all soon!
