 , Think Spring;
Doris Lawson is planning a Scamp Camp at Camp Nauvoo, 1095 Warsaw St., Nauvoo IL. We will have the entire campground to ourselves & the use of a 40 x 100 ft. air conditioned lodge that has a deck overlooking the Mississippi River. There are 43 sites with electricity, lots of space for boon docking, a dump station and water is available.
The cost per person will be $50, which includes 3 nights camping & buffet dinner at the famous Hotel Nauvoo.
To make reservations call Doris Lawson at 319-754-5719 or mail them to her at 706 Pine, Burlington IA 52601.
If you need electricity to operate medical equipment, please let Doris know at the time you make a reservation, so an electric site will be saved for you. This is in case we have an overflow & some of us have to boon dock it.
Please remit camping fees by May 15. Bring something for the White Elephant Give Away.

We're pretty new to the fiberglass camping thing. We bought a 13' Burro last year and have been out with it about 5 times. Is the gathering just for Scamps or would a Burro be welcome too? We may not be able to come due to my wife's schedule, but I thought I would ask.

Doris ask me to post this for her. I have not been to a Scamp Camp yet that there were only Scamps. Our Cousins are there also, Casita, U-hauls, Love Bugs, Trilliums, Bolers, and all the others I can't think of right now. I haven't seen a Burro up close but I would like to see one.

Nauvoo, IL is noted for it’s Blue Cheese and was the departure point for the Mormons when they left for Utah. One of the most scenic drives along the Mississippi is between Nauvoo and Keokuk on the Illinois side of the river. It is really easy to make the round trip by going to Keokuk then to Fort Madison then back to Nauvoo. You will get to see the Great Mississippi on both sides.
Nauvoo is across the river from Fort Madison, Iowa, the home of the worlds largest swing bridge where the Santa fee crosses the Mississippi. I think this might be one of the widest points in the Mississippi as the Keokuk dam formed a large lake between Keokuk and Ft. Madison.
Fort Madison also has a Gambling River Boat, a great place to loose the Egg and Tug. The one good thing about the Casino is that you can get a free ride on the sternwheeler. Just go on, keep your money to your self and enjoy the ride.

OK, Kevin's wife checked her schedule. We might be able to make part of the camp but need to leave a day early. If my university even funds my inservice, it starts May 29, so I will need to leave on May 28 to get to Lawrence, KS in time. If they don't fund the trip, not sure I will even go to the inservice, and then we can stay the entire time.
So you will probably see a Burro.

Hi CindyL;
It is sometimes hard to think Spring camping when it is cold and snowy. We have reservations for two camp outs so far this year. Hope to see you at Nauvoo. If you haven't been to this type of camp out, let me tell you there fun.

Pat:
We are new. We got our Burro last spring and fixed it up. Then we went to Lanesboro last year. We had a great time and put in our reservations for this year. So, hopefully, Nauvoo will work out schedule-wise. A couple of us here have been discussing putting together another get-together somewhere in Illinois. I would like to have it around Galena, but I don't see a campground that is near Galena that has spacious and private campground sites.
And, since we are from Iowa originally, we always enjoy heading towards home. It is tentatively on the agenda. Trying to work around that inservice.

CindyL;
That is why these gathering are fun. We get ideas from others. Some people do amazing things with their trailers. People come and go with their schedule. Some stay a day or two they come to say hi.
If you were at Lanesboro, you may had met Doris. Doris has a 19ft scamp and a little dog name patches.
If you are looking for a place for a gathering I wish you luck. between Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends are hard to get. Week days are easier. I think I heard someone is planning a Scamp Camp in Clear Lake IA after Labor Day.

We'll give a call for reservations. We plan on going to the Lincoln Trail get together the weekend before and kicking around St. Louie in between. Looking forward to meeting new people and seeing the Mississip again. We have an ancient dog who should be about 15 years old that weekend. No cake needed.

Hi All;
I talked to Doris Lawson a few days ago and she said she had 38 rigs signed up so far for Nauvoo ScampCamp.
Hope to see you there.

Well, we're only a couple weeks away! I hope the weather is good. Does anyone know if there is a lake in the park? We might bring our canoe if there's a place to use it. By the way, have the Buffalo gnats (black flies) been bad around Nauvoo? We'll probably trade the black flies for the cicadas coming out!

We will be pulling in around noon on Friday. Should be fun, even if the forecast is for some rain. There seem to be lots of things to do in the area. Don't forget your White Elephant gift as noted in the original camping notice!
