we are out now and will be till about mid Sept so Sept 13-16 could work for us as we wil be headed back to Florida. We will be coming from Pa down I-81, we do have to do our yearly stop at "The Homeplace"; thats been our favorite restaurant since it opened in the early 80's. Keep us posted on what is decided

I talked to Lanegr8 (James) this morning. He has camped at James River SP and reports that it is a very nice and clean area. He just emailed me and reported that he had checked with reservations and the weekend of Sept. 13th thru 16th has 29 openings. Based upon the PM's I have received I think we are about to put together our first Virginia Eggscursion Rally. I will keep everyone posted as the plans develop. All suggestions are encouraged and welcomed. TomB

Thanks Richie for the report. Everything I hear about JRSP is good. I live about twenty miles from Virginia Tech (go Holies) which puts me a little father away. Tom

We unexpectedly had to miss the eggscursion in Tn due to a death in the family, but would be interested in a rally in Va in the fall. We'll be following your plans with interest!

Holliday Lake

Hey Sparky
Don't waste your time with Holliday Lake SP the sites are really small, unlevel, and crammed on top of each other. The older bathhouse is disgusting and while the lake is beautiful they close the area at dusk just as it becomes nice. The last time we were there whenever a camper left within 5 minutes the camp hosts went to the site with a leafblower and made a bunch of noise. Very annoying as our "weekend" is Sunday and Monday and everybody leaves on Sunday. Nice peaceful day of intermittent buzzing of leafblower. Also I think the 4h camp nearby has a rifle range so you feel like youre camping in Bagdad.

Or you can just go to the Rally Map Here and see whats on where and when - the rallies are sorted on the left by date.

JRSP Sept

Hey guys I just spoke to a park manager. Essentially everybody needs to reserve their campsite individually and they are available on a first come basis. They don't allow doubling up in the sites and they don't allow campers inthe canoe landing area except for popups. I tried to remind her that popups get up to 25 feet or so and our campers are only 13-16 ft but she didn't seem to get it. There is a group site available that accomidates up to 42 people with no hookups it's $65/nite they do allow rvs there. Maybe I'll get that one and share since I am primitive too. We can circle the wagons. The interpretive programs are still going on the weekends in Sept. They have a new Nature Center, do hayrides, and have canoe, kayak, tube rentals. We should nail down a date ASAP and start booking sites. With the turnout that the Townsend rally had I could see us booking the whole campground. There are several Shelters available to rent at $90 a day.
Happy Trails
James

I'm trying to figure out on the map where the group site is located. We would probably opt for hookups, but try and get a site in the general direction of the group site.

Va Rally

I 'm in the process of working out the details for our rally with the management people at James River SP. I should be posting the details within the next few days. I want to make sure everything is in place first. Thanks. TomB
