We're heading West
My Wife and I are leaving Denver, with the Egg in tow, on Sept 4th and will be in the NAPA valley and San Francisco area until Sept 12th or 13th when we will head back to RENO for a few days of meetings for me and then on home to Denver on the weekend. We will have quite a few days to site see and other than the Redwoods and Scoma's on Pier 47 and China Town, I'm looking for some ''inside'' poop on good things to see.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,

San Francisco Area
You might try the area down the Monterey Peninsula to Big Sur, or up the coast to the Point Reyes Seashore. Both areas are beautiful. Both have wonderful hiking trails. Limekiln, in the Big Sur area, is a beautiful trail. There are some really nice bird watching trails in the Point Reyes area and you can head inland to the Santa Rosa area for wine tasting and such; then over to Sacramento and on to Reno. We got lost once on a back road between Santa Rosa and Sacramento, over the mountain range.

Keith
Sounds like a great trip. I hate big cities, but S.F. is the exception. I envy you too. Have you been there before? I have an aunt that lives there and I need to get back there. Have fun. Hard to say what to do, it was all great. We drove down to Montarey, and that was really nice too. North is nice-Muir woods. O.K. I'm ready to go back. Take lots of pictures and watch for eggs! Tell us all aobut it when you return.

coming west
:wave Hi Keith we recently went thru Denver on I 70, on our way home. we stopped at a rv park, which shall remain nameless, in green river, ut. if you can make it to Delta, there is a very nice looking one on the west side of town. will look it up later. it's a coast to coast park and maybe passport america.( btw if you don't know, coast to coast is good deal and headquartered there in Englewood, near the Centenial Airport. ) but i suggest you avoid Green River. we stayed on 50 across Nevada and stayed in a casino parking lot in Fallon (Bonanza?) $15. full hookup, and got most of it back. $4. in nickles, 2 free drinks $2. off breakfast etc.. if you go on over to I 80 from Fallon, you can come down and stay at our place if you want (full hookup).
we have lived in this area all of our lives except for a hitch in the usn., and Lora has never left.
cheers, Lou

Things to see in Bay Area
Actually, there is a lot to see other than the Rock, the pier and the looneys out there. On a warm day it is interesting to watch the old people hang gliding at Fort Funston, or visit the Exploratorium in the park. Little Joe's is a wonderful restaurant right off Columbus that has great food at reasonable prices.
A little further east by Vallejo there is Marine world and if you head North towards Napa and Geyserville, there are some wineries if you like to taste that sort of stuff. By Vacaville there are glider rides at Cherry Lagoon (?)
South of SF there is the Monterey Aquarium which is at the end of a beautiful drive along the coast.
Rio Linda... isn't that the place Rush Limboob talks very slowly about? Enjoy the trip!

Thanks
Thanks to all of you for your tips and thoughts. We are really getting excited to make this trip.
Lou, we will try to at least say HI on our way by and thanks for the input on the Campgrounds. Now if you come back through Denver, you must give us a call. We have a Curb for anyone but no room in this stupid ''Burb'' we live in to put in a parking pad for visitors. When I lived in Illinois, I had a full Hookup place by my house for RV visitors and that was great.
Thanks again to all. We'll gobble up some fresh crab for all of you. ( with respect of course)

SF & Reno
Well, I can give you our favorite restaurants. The Gold Mirror at 18th and Taravel is very good, old fashioned Italian and the Pacific Cafe on Geary around 31st is seafood. The Pacific Cafe is small and if you don't get there early there will be a line outside, but that's OK because they'll bring you a free glass of wine or two while you wait.
We like to wander around the Marin Headlands area at the north end of the Golden Gate bridge. The views are fantastic, some nice hikes and beaches, lots of birdwatching. Not a place for trailers though, the roads are narrow and steep. From the north, take the exit to the west, right before the bridge. At Stow Lake in Golden Gate Park, you can rent a peddle boat (it's kind of like riding a bicycle). And I could spend all day at the Exploratorium.
In Reno, the Liberty Belle Restaurant on S. Virginia is the place to eat. Ask Marsh (owner/bartender) to show you his slot machine collection. His father invented the slot machine and Marsh probably has one of each kind ever made. Unfortunately, we will be on vacation then or else we could meet you there for dinner.

heading west
:wave Hi Keith, after a little research. that park in delta, ut is Antelope Valley and it is a Coast to Coast park. in driving by it looked well kept (unlike Green River) with concrete pads. with c to c you only pay $6. for full hookup.
that casino in fallon is the Bonanza Inn and Casino. Lora reminded me that upon leaving the next am, we discovered a WalMart right across hwy 50, and the apparent cheapest gas was aboutg a half block west.
at the Nevada border, or very near, there is a casion/restaurant/rv park (can't miss it ...nothing else around for miles) we had lunch there and it was supriseingly good. and reasonable. we each had a ruben and could only eat half.
of course, if your going to take I 80, this all academic.
and oyea Limbaugh does badmouth us and it's made the area infamous...and increase traffic, for which we are ungratefull. cheers

Go north of Napa to Mendocino area, stay along the coast as it will probably be still hot if you get inland very far. Check out the Graeagle area north of I80 between Sacto and Reno you can come back to the road at Truckee, it's a nice diversion from the freeway

Camp Redwood
If you do wind up around the Monterey/Santa Cruz area, let me know and we'll host you! Pearl, our 17SD will be off on the advance run for our vacation, and we'll have a hookup site available at our house. We now have on our street the highest density of Casita/fiberglass in the US, we think. Bob & Shirley & the Wandering Egloo, are now being joined by our other neighbors, Mike & Ingrid with a new Casita that's arriving in October, and then another couple who recently purchased a Scamp! It's beginning to look like an exclusive RV park.
