Hi. We're interested in looking at your trailer. We're about 1 1/2 hours northwest near Hanover. Are you home tomorrow? (Sunday) We could swing by then. Cheers, Steven & Jenny

What is the tow rating on your Jetta?

dj bobby t, the seller, last logged onto this site on April 10 -- I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for an answer.

If you click on dj bobby t's name up above a menu pops down with a 'Send a message' link. This will send a personal message to the member and if they have their email address in their profile an email will be sent to them directly.

Edited to add Booker's instructions about how to contact a seller via PM

Hy,

You may want to read the recent thread that Maddy started about towing wiht her VW, which is also rated to tow 1,000 lbs. The upshot is that none of the 13-foot "eggs" (Boler, Scamp, Casita, etc) are going to be light enough for your car.

Even a Compact Jr. might be too heavy; you'd have to weigh an individual trailer (don't go by what sellers tell you unless they have a recent weigh receipt). You would have to pack extremely light if it were even possible.

An older Eriba Puck might work, although they are out of the range of this forum, being steel framed and aluminum (mostly) bodied.

I have been avoiding thinking of that possibility but the harsh reality is that the more I look into this the more I think you may very well be right and I should just stick to the only one I can see might work which is the Puck or possibly the Teardrop (which a lot of people seem to be doing custom versions of all over north america). I just found a website for a dealer in my backyard (outside toronto) who is selling Teardrops as well as a Tadpole Teardrop....www.tadpoletrailers.com which are even lighter. I might check them out. Thanks for the heads up on this. Better to be safe than sorry.

Hy,

As you say, better safe than sorry. It seems that a 1500# tow rating is about the least you can have to tow one of our 13' eggs. Even then you have to watch things, but it's doable.

There is always the possibility of a different car, although I bet you love your Jetta

I'll have to check out the tadpole - haven't seen it.

One note is that I would still want to weigh a new trailer (or see a weigh receipt) if I were anywhere close to the limit. I say this because many of our 13' eggs were said to weigh "995#" by the mfgr and that has turned out to be a bit optimistic in many real-world cases. Some mfgrs were a bit more optimistic than others.

Glad to have you aboard, in any case, and I hope you find a suitable camper
