Thanks Steve, I too wish you were closer! Wish I could vouch for the tv, then I would try to talk you into making the trip.

Totally agree! I've called on every "project" priced one I could find. Apparently these sell like hotcakes out here in the west. I've made what I thought were a couple deals and people have flaked out on me.

Steve,

I see on another thread that you finally found a 5'er closer to home.

Congratulations!

Thanks

I thought it was an 83 but turns out it is an 84. Pretty nice but has a musty smell. It was 420 miles away so still a bit of a drive but the price was only $2500 so it turned out okay.

Is this still available 7/22/12?

Yikes, I'm very new, so to the forum so I hope I am posting where I should. Is these both still available?

Not sure what the mileage is on the Dakota, I'll check in the morning and post it.

For everyone that asked about the tow vehicle, I can't tell you much. I bought it just to set it up for the 5th wheel. I installed base plates to mount the Curt Spyder which matches the trailer.

The truck already had the brake controller and the 7-pin plug installed but the wiring for the 7-pin was all corroded so I had a local RV dealer go over it. They had to replace the entire connector and converter with a new kit. They got it working, but they said something in the brake controller is back-feeding the lights so I had them leave that wire (brake control) unconnected. Also, the 12v power wire (truck batt. to back) is undersized, so we left that unconnected as well.

Since I was planning on using my own camp site (100 miles at most) I didn't think I would need either of those right away. So the truck provides all the legal lights to the trailer, but not brake control nor battery recharge.

As for the truck itself, since I bought it I haven't had a chance to drive it far, so I can't vouch for it's performance on a long tow.

As I said above, I'll check the number of miles in the morning, and post that.

Sorry I can't tell you more,
Mark

Mark,
Thanks for making time on Sunday to show me your Scamp. I am still trying to figure out what I can do, would like the size of 5th wheel but wife really wants a 16 she can manage more easily. I think my F350 is a bit overkill but would still need to add hauler bed to make it work for me. I can vouch that this is a nice scamp that just needs a small amout of cleaning to make it perfect, the truck looked good too. If you have a serious buyer I'd be willing to help out with delivery, sombody just has to pay for fuel and get me back home.
Regards,
Tim

OK. I am selling another rv I have. I am downsizing to the Scamp 5th wheel.
I want to head on up to where you are. Take a look at it & if its what I want, I will pay you cash for it. On the spot.
Perhaps u & I can discuss what you were gonna do to it. Looks like it needs lino in one area. Are there other things?
Also want to see about having the hitch fixed so it will go on the back of my 2001 GMC Jimmy. Which is not a pickup.
As I have been searching, I saw one fixed that way. Waaay cool

I'd be happy to sell the Scamp, but I not sure about the modification you plan. I've seen a few pictures of 5th wheels modified to tow-behind hitches, and I don't think they looked durable or even safe.

I don't think it is a question of welding, but one of leverage. I don't think any weld would hold that.

I wouldn't want to chance it. But if you want to buy the trailer and take it home to find some local welder who feels they can do it, I suppose you could try.

Is your Jimmy the old style or the new style? Does it have a V8?

Sorry to discourage you, just trying to be cautious.

Have you considered buying the trailer AND the tow vehicle? I have them both for sale (see above) and the truck is all set to match up with the 5th wheel hitch of the trailer.
