Trailer: 16 ft U-Haul VT / 2004 GMC Safari

It is with a heavy heart that I have my U-Haul 16ft VT for sale. I love this trailer but we need the money for other things. Currently the U-haul owner's web site knows of only 7 of these beauties for sale and mine is pretty original.
Please know this unit DOES NOT HAVE A BATHROOM/SHOWER - it does have a privacy room with a sink and an original porta-potty.
A/C will freeze you out. We've never used the furnace so I don't know if it works - we normally used a small ceramic heater that cooked us! These U-hauls were built like tanks as they were in the rental fleet in the mid 1980's. Stove, Sink, fridge runs on propane or electric. Vinyl wood-look floor and smooth double hulled walls make this trailer easy to keep clean.
Asking $6,000.
We're located just east of Akron Ohio, but the trailer is at a private campground.

Email me for further questions. I'll be happy to tell you all about my 'baby'.

I saw this trailer at the Ohio get together last year and anyone interested in a really nice, clean used unit should jump at this one. Terry R.

Carolyn,
Do you know what your VT weighs? Empty? "All up"?
Thank you,

Raya:
I can't tell you the weight of our VT, but we pull ours just fine with our Eurovan. We also load it full of things like bikes, screen house, TV, etc. We even use if for donations when we volunteer on Pine Ridge.
We hardly feel it behind the van.

Are you going to post it over on uhaulcamper? Do you mind if I do it if you do not? There are people there who want a VT.

A great looking trailer there folks, it's a shame I'm not ready to 'move on up' to a bigger rig yet! hehe I am curious to know more about the 16 ft UHauls though. Is it true that there were only a very few of the 16fters made, compared to the 13fters? Just curious...

Raya,
I'm not positive on the tow weight, I was going to do a little more research before I added that into my ad so I could be positive. CindyL would probably know exactly. We pull this with our Jeep Liberty 6cyl with no problems.
Cindy, you're welcome to place it on the Uhaul web site..I tried to earlier but ran into a 'bump' that I will take care of. I did see someone over there was looking for one.
I love this trailer, and the network of Fiberglass owners. I LOVE showing it off (like at the Fall Gathering huh Terry??) This trailer is ready to go camping this weekend - it has no issues, I've been agonizing over this for months now.
Joe, Cindy would be able to tell you more of the history of these wonder little gems as to how many were maufactured and how may are recorded as being left. I believe her 'count' to be 7 known 16ft'rs accounted for on the Uhaul web site.
This isn't a 'fixer upper' by any means. All the wiring has been redone by the previous owner so that's not an issue. With the exception of the furnace, everything is in perfect working order. We just camped in it last weekend. It's my baby and I've taken very good care of it in the time that I've had it. We've stored it indoors every winter.

Carolyn,
I am sorry that you have to give up your baby. I would be very upset too. There is no need to give up on the fiberglass group though. Maybe there will come a time that you can get a new baby. In the meantime, keep sharing your wisdom.
(I am sitting in the dr office, so I will answer the other questions later.)

Raya and Joe,
The hubby says that we have not weighed our VT. However, he guesstimates it to be 1850 dry weight. He says that he thinks it says this on several web sites. For us, it likely becomes around 2500 when we put all our stuff into it. He is not sure how these figures were obtained, i.e. with icebox, water tank, etc.
I might add that ours has the privacy room done up as a shower. A guy over on uhaulcamper.com who actually worked on VTs (They were made in Phoeniz, AZ. CTs were made in Dayton, I think.) said that our shower equipment would have been original. There is a hand faucet coming out of the sink. (Carolyn, does yours have a sink?) We added additional drains and do use the shower.
Joe, UHaul had 200 VTs made and 500 CTs. As far as I can tell, there is one in CA with Ami, one in IL with us, the one Carolyn has posted, one that was recently sold to someone in N. Dakota, one in Idaho or thereabouts, one that was in IN but we don't know what has happened to it, and one in Canada that was just dug out of mud that covered it up to the axle.
We love ours. We are taking it out this weekend.

Are you still coming to the Lake Erie Meet in a few weeks?
Would you consider downgrading to a 13' 72 boler American?

Cindy,
Thanks for your information on the weight..I knew it was about 1800-ish dry weight, but wasn't exactly sure.
Oh Roy, I don't think I'm going to be able to make it to the Lake Erie Meet...not out of not wanting to by any means, just have a few things going on and my hubby has been working weekends as of late. As much as I love a cute Boler, I'm not looking for a trade...I'm sorry.

Please forgive me...I did forget to add that this trailer does have a roof mounted solar panel, inverter and deep cell battery. We don't use it as I'm somewhat partial to 'shore power'.
Thanks for looking!

Roy,
I understood your offer was for your Boler and cash...I didn't mean to be disrespectful, I just meant we're not interested in having another trailer at this time...but thank you for your offer.

Is this for still for sale? I may be interested. I am a little concerned about towing. I have a 2004 subaru forrester and the little bit of research I have done so far is that is will be too heavy.

Carolyn had this adorable trailer at our Casita rally last year, and I can tell you, it is a very nice, clean trailer. Snooze, you will lose this one!

Hello All!
I've put together a photo web site of my trailer. I've done my best to photograph everything I could think of for anyone truly interested in purchasing my trailer. Should you have any further questions please contact me.
http://uhaul16fttraveltrailerforsale.shutterfly.com/
Also I re-listed this trailer on Craigslist, so the link in my first posting may not direct you to the ad.

Thank you to those who have personally visited my trailer and know it to be as nice as I've described.
