1989 Scamp 16.


We're in the Carlsbad, NM area and the person across the street has a Scamp 16 with side bath/front couch/bunks for sale for $5700. It is owned by an Escapee.


He has made a number of interesting mods and I will post pictures of those in the mods sections and as well later tonight I'll post some pictures of his rig. I intend to copy some of his mods.

The unit has a full time bed in the back. The foot of the bed has a counter over the end of the bed. There is a 19” Sylvania LCD TV and space for a satellite Receiver. Both the TV and receiver have outlets for AC or Inverter with associated on/off switches.



It has the following:

1. three tires with 5000 miles purchased in 2010, spare rim, new tire cover
2. a rear bumper hitch.
3. two sewer hose carriers and a Y connector sewer hose
4. Large 6 cubic foot AC only Fridge, runs off 1000 watt inverter,
5. 2 type 29 batteries with disconnect
6. 2 propane tanks with automatic switch over
7. 2 roof vents, one with a 2 speed fan
8. 2 rear bumper stabilizers
9. Sat Dish mounting pole on bumper, includes dish
10. Heavy duty battery charging cable to tow vehicle
11. Door Dead Bolt
12. 1000 watt Inverter
13. 600 watt microwave
14. 6” foam matress with 2” memory foam
15. Berber Carpeting
16. Digital Outdoor thermometer
17. Large under trailer rear storage compartment (see mods)
18. Clever black tank toilet flush (see mods)

Factory Installed

1. Sealand China toilet bowl,

• 2. 3 burner stove, missing one grate
  3. Convertor
  4. Stainless Sink
• 5. Winegard amplified antenna
• 6. 7500 BTU closet AC.
• 7. Outside cable TV connector
• 8. smoke alarm
• 9. Screen door

Missing elements:
The front rock shield, one stove top grate, and the 3 way fridge. He's installed a large, probably 6 cubic foot fridge.

I have numerous pictures of this trailer but decided to start with these four.

First picture, door side. Vents near door are for factory installed AC unit.

Second picture. Additional plastic piece covers former vent area of 3 way fridge. Original fridge failed and replaced with a large AC fridge.

Third Picture. features full length awning.

Fourth Picture shows tongue with 2 propane tanks and 2 batteries. Pole was used for sat antenna. Pole could be used for flag, removeable with 2 screws. Also anti sway bar on tongue's far side.

The owner is willing to drive upto 500 miles to show the trailer. Arrangements can be worked out with him. As well he said the price is negotiable.

Looks like a very good buy, especially for a first time rv'er....I would love too have found a deal like that first time out!

Unfortunately I took most of these pictures for myself and are not really really very good for prospective customers. I was interested primarily in little additions he'd made that I might like.

He had added wire baskets over the stove and over the sink that seemed useful. Picture 1 and 2. (Note one stove grate missing.)

Picture 3 is of his AC only Fridge. The Fridge door locks for travel. He has a 1000 watt Inverter to run the fridge when dry camping or traveling and two large type 31 batteries. As well he has a large tow vehicle to battery charging cable.

Picture 4 is of a shelf he has installed over the foot of the bed. They always traveled with the bed up. The bed has a double mattress of 5" foam and 2" memory foam. As well he still has the original cushions.

Picture 5 is of the cabinet above the foot of the bed. There is an identical cabinet above the head of the bed. People frequently install a shelf between these two cabinets above the rear window.

Though I don't show it, he keeps his bunks up and uses the top bunk for storage and has mounted his microwave to a piece of plywood on the upper bunk. Personally I would mount the microwave somewhere else, possibly on the Fridge or in the closet.

The bottom of the closet contains a factory installed Air Conditioner.

This Scamp 16 had been sold to a person from Canada who placed a deposit from Canada but for some reason, having never seen the trailer, had to back out of the sale.

It is still available in NM and the owner is willing to travel a resonable distance with the trailer.
