For sale: 13' Scamp 1983 in Vermont $1200
This unreconstructed Scamp is ready for you to use as is, or add your own personal touches. Everything works: water, gas heater, gas and electric lights, electric (only) refrigerator. New wheel rims and tires about 1000 miles ago. Ding on one side, painstakingly rebuilt with fiberglass, needs some paint. Email through site, or call Steve or Jessica 802-426-3671.

Not an issue -- we got back last week from our Swan Song voyage, and there was no trouble of that (or any) kind at all. I guess we could have photographed it better.

What's the hitch height? Sometimes the picture can make things look worse than they actually are... but if this is the original axle, it IS 27 years old. However, the price is very reasonable for a clean trailer of this vintage. The axle is "relatively" inexpensive to replace for something that wouldn't need replacement for another 15-20 years (unless damaged)

We don't know the hitch height -- but it rides nicely behind our Toyota Siena, and similarly well before our former Dodge van.

Also, the older Scamps had leading arm axles similar to the Bolers, and from my understanding those were made with a [Edited to correct:] UP-angled arm because leading arms ride better that way. In other words, they would have been "low" from the factory (Floyd posted a great factory ad photo that showed this well).
Nice looking Scamp
Raya
PS: Here is the photo of an older Scamp brochure that Floyd posted. Not sure what year, but I'd say the Pinto wagon dates it to the late '70s. You can see how even a new Scamp (from back then) sits lower than a new one now, even from the factory. I'm not speaking to the condition of this Scamp's axle, but just showing how an older Scamp being lower does not necessarily mean a problem, as it was likely that way when new.

Hi Jessica, just sent you a pm. We are very interested in taking a look at your camper. If possible tomorrow during the day as we are in Vermont right now.

Hi all, we took a look at Jessica's Scamp yesterday and it looked good so we agreed to buy it! If all goes as planned we hope to pick it up this coming weeked. We have a trailer hitch on order (they said 3 day shipping) and as soon as it gets here I'll install it. Thanks for everyone's help.

Looks like you got a good deal on a Scamp, and Jessica got a fast sale. That's the nice thing about Scamps -- if you want/need to sell one, they sell fast! I showed up at 8:30am on the morning after the ad was placed on here for mine... and they already had a number of responses! I was lucky to get it!
At that price, don't worry about the axle. It will be well worth the investment, should it need one. If you do replace the axle, at least make sure the replacement has the brake mounting flange. According to my local trailer shop, it only costs about $2 more to get the flanges... then you can add brakes to your Scamp at any time.

I hope the sale goes through but if you do run into any problems and it doesn't sell. Please consider contacting me. I am in New York and would be happy to buy it.

The Scamp now belongs to Heather and Jon. We have sent a small donation to keep the lights on at the site, and will post a pic of the Scamp with its former and new owners!
