Two weeks ago I purchased a 1981 13'
Scamp here in WI and two days ago also purchased a 1993 16'
Casita. Yikes - two weeks ago I had none! I'm selling the
Scamp, even though it's the more interesting of the two, as I can only use one at a time anyway. Well actually, I'd like to keep them both but don't have the storage space for that and I don't think the police will let me tow both of them simultaneously either.
Over the course of the last two weeks have replaced/repaired the following:
- Roof vent cover - replaced with new, sourced from Scamp.
- Cleaned it.
- Door hinges - replaced with new, including the cap nuts, sourced from Scamp.
- Stone guard hardware - replaced with new, souced from Scamp. There sure are a lot of pop-rivets associated with that hardware!
- Exterior rivet covers - replaced with new, sourced from Scamp.
- Table - built new with 3/4" oak veneer plywood includes new folding leg. Table is stained and has two coats of polyurethane varnish. I also built the table to accomodate the usual mid-life bulge that Scamps can acquire so it fits properly onto the supports when lowered to the bed position. The difference in table width from end-to-end to accomodate this was just under 3/8".
- Re-caulked the windows.
- Cleaned it.
- Replaced missing handles on the crank out windows.
- Cover over power cord outlet - replaced with new, sourced from Scamp.
- Cover for city water connection - replaced with new.
- Cleaned it.
The following are the new things that it came with when I bought it:
- Dorm-type Haier brand refridgerator. It must have replaced the original Dometic? The outside vents are still there if someone wanted to put a 3-way fridge back into the trailer.
- Carpeting - new stuff is indoor/outdoor and colored brown.
- Curtains. They have a brown background with images of Ford Mustangs.
Things I have not had the time to work on yet:
- Check out the on-board water system (this was next on my list of things to tackle on this Scamp). All of the on-board water system parts (water tank, fill port, drain valve, water lines, sink pump/spigot) are installed in the trailer. The city water connection, spigot, and sink drain all work.
- Check out the furnace. The Suburban 12K BTU furnace is in it, but has the gas line disconnected. I don't know if it's servicable.
- Check out the 12 VDC converter. It's also there but not sure in what condition it may be.
- Repaint the tongue and rear bumper.
General condition assessment:
This trailer is ready for use now. It's completely weather tight. The interior is in good condition and does not smell. All of the
windows work properly and none are broken (all four are the jalousie type). The floor is solid. All of the cabinet doors and closet door are in good order - no broken hinges or catch latches. The cook top is there but one of it's burner valves is stuck in the closed position. The ensolite is in good condition. The supports and safety rail for the front bunks are in good shape. All of the cushions are there, none are torn, and all have the original plaid fabric. I have about 80% of the entrance door's weather stripping, and it's old dryed-out, brittle adhesive, cleaned off of the door frame - will be installing closed-cell weather stripping yet this week. The 120VAC system is in working order.
