Thanks for the book recommendation. That looks like a good one but may be even a bit beyond where I'm at right now.

I do not mean to sound critical and I mean no disrespect whatsoever. But, that scope you purchased is really meant more for daytime viewing of birds then astronomical objects at night. You may be able to get a decent view of the moon. The one I linked to previously will be a lot easier to use and will show you a lot more.
The book I recommended is definitely a beginner book - you have to start somewhere. If you have specific questions I can answer them. You should also get a planisphere.
Regarding a telescope, you are way better purchasing one from a true telescope store. Amazon and the like will not provide after sales support which is what you need. Moreover, you will not save any as these are all
sold for the same price.
