anyone do pottery?

i got this brilliant idea today.

cookie jar made in the shape of a scamp 13 foot trailer.

or teardrop trailer.

or a scotty trailer, or what ever you wanted.

maybe i just dicovered my new retirement business?

If you go into production, I'd buy a Scamp shaped cookie jar! Maybe a Scamp shaped cookie cutter to go along with it would be nice too!

I did ceramics at a local junior college for a while. It was fun, but I soon ran out of storage space and people ran when they saw me coming with an armful of new stuff out of the kiln.

I love the idea of an egg cookie jar or piggy bank.

i took a pottery course a number of years ago. loved it! couldn't throw worth a damn. the first plate was almost an inch thick.
second plate was thick and heavy and looking good...and then, whomp! lopsided and you know what that does to the balance...whonp whomp whomp.....
decided instead to make molded things..like working from playdoh.
that was nice! kind of idiot-proof!

instead of a cookie jar, i'd love to have a couple of mugs with a raised egg trailer on them.

Robert took ceramics classes at San Diego State University while he was working on a BA in Psychology. While he did get his degree, he decided he could make better use of his artistic talents. We have an outdoor studio set up (because pottery clay scrap is messy and easier hosed off than other methods of cleaning up). There is the wheel, a wedging table, a deep sink, and a slab roller. We also have a supply of ground-up minerals that he mixes to create glazes. There are 2 kilns: an electric for bisque firing, and a gas kiln for high-fire glazes. His focus is "throwing" Utilitarian ware: bowls, cups, jar, vases.

i believe i would have to make them by the good old rope of clay method. building them up frpm the base then smoothing them out.

or make a mold to pour ceramic slurey. i'll study it and see if i can do it without needing a co-signer to cover the costs.

hmmmm egg camper salt and pepper shakers anyone?

Beautiful pieces. I never truly mastered the wheel, let alone complex glazes, but I admire anyone that has.
