New Ham (not canned)

Add one more to the rolls. Passed my Tech & General class exams today. Now waiting on FCC to issue my call sign. And, thanks to LDG Electronics in St. Leonard, MD who provided gratis, I have a Wouson HT to get me started. Of course, the VEs said now I have to get HF!
I will be putting together something portable to take on my travels.
Will be on the road during this year's Field Day and will be listening.

I'm not into it, but apparently a previous owner of our Uhaul was. It had a short fiberglass antenna on it that I was told was for HAM radio.

Another Ham here, N3UPM. Scamp is definitely going to Field Day this year! Also got a 60' crank-up to install this summer at the house. My main radio is a Kenwood TS-950, but I'm going to get a KX-3 for portable use. Might mount a VHF antenna on the camper for base use when camping, son and wife both have their own HT's, we use them for everything from backing in the trailer to keeping track of my son.

Congratulations to the new tech, and good luck on the General. Be sure and let us know when you pass the general test.

Field Day

Anybody making plans for Field Day 2013?

My wife and I have made plans. We're going near the top of a 6,000 ft mountain in central Oregon, Pine Mountain. There's a small National Forest Campground managed by PMO (Pine Mountain Observatory). The campground is free. I think a group from Bend is going to be operating on field day from there and we'll be part of their group. If the they don't manage to get together Anne and I will be operating from there anyway.

If it's just Anne and myself we'll be operating under my call sign AK7EE.

If the Bend group shows up, we'll be operating under what ever call sign they use.
I'll make another posting when I know for sure what the call sign will be, even if it's Saturday morning of the event.

I become Ham in Egg usually on our club Field Day and the Casita becomes a cooling station for operators that can not tolerate our weather here.
Sometimes no one uses it but sometimes it is a lifesaver too,we just won't know till the day is here?

Otherwise I will setup a low power station in some out of the way spot and try to make contacts while enjoying the heat and bugs and solitude,I can't wait!

Not quite, Ed! He just carries it so we can check up on him or call him back to camp. Saves me from yelling and saves everyone else around from having to listen to me yell.

Will be doing the usual with the local club at the old fairgrounds here, elev. 1800'. Might be one of the first outings for the Scamp, although it's only about a 1500' drive, and most of that is wrapping around the back of the hill. I live about 500' from the edge of the site. This will be the 3rd year we've been up there, sometimes it seems we have more laughs than QSO's, but that's fine by me!

Callsign for Field Day will be N3SRC. Hope the weather cooperates, this is not a site to be at when the lightning starts.

I'm going to assume that the HTs are FRS and not ham or they both are licensed hams.

Why do you need to assume anything?

W7TGL here on the oregon coast since 1999.
I've not been on the airwaves much since my daughter (another ham) left for the Air Force back in 2004. I know, shame on me. I do assist with local Health & Wellness call during emergencies and power-outs here on the coast and enjoy doing so.

I might pick up a new handheld at some point just to be more up to date (that and i have a hard time saying _no_ to gadgets!).

Because you're a ham and wouldn't operate illegally.

Can't relate to the Gadget buying at all!

I am just glad the Fish Fry next weekend is the same time as Dayton or I am sure I would be there finding things I "Need" but don't know yet?

Have a nice group here. I actually got to touch a K3 and was really impressed now if my wallet were thicker.

Ham in Egg! I love it. I guess I'm one too. I've had my Tech Classic since 6th grade. I've had my egg for two weeks.
