I have metal detected for a several years and is a great hobby. For starting out it is not good to buy the very best detector you can get, as it will have to many lights
, bells, and whistles, just confusing you. Buy one that you can afford and buy it from a reputalbe dealer so you can get the right instructions. It is a very good hobby, rewarding and you never have to clean your catch.
My best find is not worth much, but took the most work and time. I was working the shoreline of a beach of a local lake and my detector showed a copper coin at 7 inches. I looked and scooped and nothing finally rock by rock, sand scoop, and handfuls I found a piesce of concrete about 3 inches in diamete with a reading of cooper. On shore I broke it open to find a 1957 lincoln cent, all this afer 4 hours of detecting.
Enjoy the dig andleave things better than you found them.
