I have metal detected for a several years and is a great hobby. For starting out it is not good to buy the very best detector you can get, as it will have to many
lights, bells, and whistles, just confusing you. Buy one that you can afford and buy it from a reputalbe dealer so you can get the right instructions. It is a very good hobby, rewarding and you never have to clean your catch.
My best find is not worth much, but took the most work and time. I was working the shoreline of a beach of a local lake and my detector showed a copper coin at 7 inches. I looked and scooped and nothing finally rock by rock, sand scoop, and handfuls I found a piesce of concrete about 3 inches in diamete with a reading of cooper. On shore I broke it open to find a 1957 lincoln cent, all this afer 4 hours of detecting.
Enjoy the dig andleave things better than you found them.
