Always remember the secret to electronics if they get wet. Pull the power (like batteries) immediately. Then get as much water as possible out of and/or away from it. Then the secret about rice is true. But wrap it in a cloth first so the rice does not get into or really touch it. Keep it sealed with the rice for several days. Then see if ALL of the water is gone. If you can see any damp, more time in the rice. Then let it air dry for a couple more days. Then give it a try. You would be surprised how many times this will fix the problem. But your point you are about to make is very true. Not every time.
If the water has salt or other things it it, you may need to wash it with distilled water. I know that sounds wrong, but the stuff in the water is your real enemy. Always remember that totally pure water is actually an excellent insulator. I have worked where they use that fact.
