Great shot!, you must have decent lens for this shot to have some flare and no ghosts.

Thanks George! I have a solid lens - shot that with the Nikon 105 af, but if you look a little more closely you can see an artifact hovering just above the rump of the nearest pony in the lower left corner. Still, not bad for shooting straight into the sun.

Ecola Park

Some pictures from the last week day trip to the gorgeous Ecola Park. I love these West Coast Sunsets. The thinking bird was dreaming about food on our picknick table.

George: The photo of the stormy, foggy sea is great. Here is our photo of a similarly gifted seagull on a brighter day in October last year in Newport, OR.

Thank you Brian, your bird is a lefty with blue sky, mine was going from left to right foot but was ultimately captured as a righty without blue sky, just life.

Fly me to the moon

We returned to Bay View State Park for the second week, this time visiting La Conner, Port Townsend, Fort Casey. A seagull soared above the MV Salish on the trip from Port Townsend back to Keystone.

Mirrorless

I switched from DSLR to mirrorless a couple of years ago. This new market is growing fast but the recent intro of Olympus OMD 5 axis sensor image stabilization is just amazing. See the video...Olympus OM-D E-M5 five-axis sensor-shift image stabilization hands-on (video) -- Engadget

Pentax have also issued a mirrorless camera recently. I'm not feeling tempted at the moment as I have two Pentax DSLR's - but who knows what will 'call' me in the future?

Olympus is not in bankruptcy proceedings but they fouled up immensely. Fortunately they cleaned up few bad apples from the board including the chairman. Their stock is rebounding but still has a long way to get back to thirties level.

Sales of m43 in Japan for the first time exceeded Nikon and Canon DSLR sales. Olympus was one of the founders of m43 which is dominant in mirrorless sales. Sony had early entry as well and has great mirrorless product line. I would not be too negative about Olympus, their commercial optics and photographic product portfolio is excellent. I am not surprised that shareholders are upset; I would be too but hope that Olympus will regain its business strength; they do have engineering strength.

I would however be concern about Canon lateness to mirrorless field and underwhelming Nikon V/J - 1 entry.

Beautiful shot Brian. Macro photography is hard technically, but even harder artistically. You nailed this one.

You asked about signs of spring in our neighbourhood - I can only say "In my dreams". Likely see something inicating its approach in 6 or more weeks. Until then it will be snow cover everywhere.

I bought a macro lens a few weeks ago, and last weekend we took a trip to our favourite part of Washington State to try it out. More photos here: Fun with Macro - a set on Flickr
