I don't think of it as a hobby, but I carry 3 cameras with me. Canon AE-1 35mm film; Nikon Coolpix 995 and a small Sony pocket camera. I like the 35mm for scenery shots as I still feel the quality of film is better than digital. I use a 60 - 200mm zoom for most shots; but have a 500/1000mm for shooting stars and planets.
And it all started in 1965 with a Kodak Brownie.

Ricketts Glen State Park, PA - Nikon D300, 24-70mm f:2.8 1/4 second at f:5.6 & Singh-Ray Vari-ND Filter. Not the best time of year to visit since the leaves were not out yet, but there are 22 waterfalls & many, many cascades along the two streams running through the park...
If interested, there are more photos on my website at http://www.lakeshoreimages.com/rickettsglen.html

Here are some photos taken from a Zermatt Minotel Hotel in 2002. I had intended to create a time lapse video with them, but I could never work out the details.
1: mt. before dawn
2: First light
3: Gold Peak
4: All Golden
5: Gold Fading
6: Golden to Silver

Well thanks. I'm glad you liked them. I probably should have captioned them... the first is the base of Q1, the tallest residential tower in the world, and the third is looking just to the south of Q1 in Surfer's Paradise on the Gold Coast of Queensland, AU. The center, of course, is the Sydney Opera House framed by the Sydney Harbor Bridge.
Roger.

Thougth I'd throw one in. I carry a camera, of some kind, "all" the time. I own too many to list. These were taken with a pocket clicker.

Here's what I took today. Went for a walk out along Honeymoon Island to the point and back. I wanted to get a few for posterity, in case the beach gets trashed with oil later!

In looking at the photos that have been posted I am struck by
1. how well photography fits with fiberglass trailering (you can take pictures of your trips and interesting things you see)
2. how well photography fits with other crafts and hobbies (you can take pictures of crafts and hobbies too)
There also seem to be degrees of participation in crafts and hobbies -- some of us enjoy other people's skill and ability in crafts and hobbies, and simply record what we see.

I'm thinking of getting a better/larger camera so interested in what others like/use. I stay small because I like a camera in my pocket whenever I'm out for those unexpected moments.

Penney:
I have been using Pentax single lens reflex cameras since 1962. My latest one is a Pentax istDS, a digital single lens reflex which I was given as a birthday gift. My favorite lens in a Tamron 35 - 210 mm lens which I have used on Pentax cameras since 1984. It is not auto focus nor image stabilized, but it does link with the camera to allow automatic exposure in any mode. While Pentax is not as popular as Canon or Nikon it is light and well built, and does have its enthusiasts, of which I am one.

Yosemite Valley, July 2008. I take stereoscopic (3D) photo pairs. I use 2 cameras to shoot a left view and a right view simultaneously. Seeing scenery in full depth is so much more realistic and enjoyable. Most people, seeing a good 3D image for the first time, say "Wow, it's like I'm there!"
See if you can view this "parallel" pair in 3D! If you can make the left eye focus on the left image and the right eye see the right image, you will see it as a normal two-eyed person would see it... in true depth. It can take some practice... I learned to "freeview" 3D pairs like this by placing a long sheet of paper from my nose to the screen to act as a septum, forcing each eye to be able to see only its own view. As an alternative, one can obtain inexpensive viewers (like the Loreo Lite Viewer from loreo.com) for a couple dollars each.
My father took stereo photos with a Stereo Realist camera and slide film back in the '50s. I grew up enjoying those images, and now I make my own. I started with film, but lately I've switched to digital 8x10 prints viewed in a special viewing device.
For me, RVing is primarily a way to see and photograph the wonderful, diverse scenery this country has to offer.
