I do use online backup of my photos at a hosting site. These are the ones I have processed and like. Sure there are lots more to process yet, but at least many are there.

I also do similar to Jon, in that I backup my photos, and all other important files, to a Drobo to backup too. This backup device offers redundant protection, meaning it duplicates all files on it. If I need more storage, it is as simple as adding another 3.5" hard drive, or just exchanging one of the ones installed for a larger one.

Plus, of course, my desktop has a copy of all these files on it too.

What I like about the online storage, is that the files are easily accessible wherever you have a network connection.

Cloud storage seems to be the rage nowadays but,"it ain't for for this OleMan". I don't like some unknown managing my stuff and if it's gonna get lost I can lose it as well as any robot. Like Jon, I have external hard drives with backups of my backups.

Did you have to bring up the subject of 20MB drives!!. When they came out in the mid-80's, it cost me a little over $300 for one. Cutting edge technology for about 6 weeks back then. Now you can get 30-50GB flash storage for pocket change.

I backup critical data on an external hard drive and copies of it to multiple flash drives that I take with me in my truck. If the house burns down or blows away when gone, I have all the accounting, artwork and reference photos that I really need to begin again. Everything else is just stuff, a lot of which I wouldn't even bother replacing.

A couple of shots of the bridge over the Mississippi River at Vidalia, LA.

Both were taken with a Pentax K01 and Tamron 10/24 mm zoom. The night picture was shot ISO 6400 f4 at 1/15 second and 15.6 mm. The day shot was ISO 200 f5.6 at 1/200 second and 24 mm.

I am a fan of off site backup, easiest is of course cloud or a backup service over the network but I tend to like physical (and have mediocre internet speeds) So...

Two external hard drives. I backup to mine, sister backs up to hers. Whenever my sister and I get together we swap hard drives. Won't be totally up to date because we might not see each other for a month or more but it is a full backup of important files as of the day we last swapped drives.

In addition to the hardware fails (when not if), or files get corrupted, cloud service goes belly up or has a failure (read the fine print they only promise to "try" to protect your data, not promise to do so). One also has to figure if someone breaks into the house and steals the computer they will probably steal the backup drive. Especially if it is located convenient to the computer being backed up. Not convenient = not likely to get backed up so most of us have them right there.

I have a 2nd computer and an external backup hard drive. I have 25,000+ pics and don't want to lose them.

I really liked the image quality of the Sony A5000 for everything except outdoor shots. So I traded it in at Henry's for a Panasonic FZ200. Over all I like the image quality and features. I do miss the compact size of the Sony.

Waaaay back in '43 I would be allowed to feed the horses of the bread wagon, the milk wagon or the ice cream man's an apple. They were huge things for a little tad.

Well of course you didnt you were not even born then BUT if your dad was working in 1943 you must be getting on yourself not that I should talk you are only a bit older than I.

Guess you are looking forward to going south so are we but Beth's recovery from the knee op is going slowly.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program on photography sorry I dont have a great photo to share.

In '49 my parents bought a new home. In the spring the road was just a mud bog and the milk wagon got stuck up to its axles. The poor old horse couldn't pull it out so the milkman unhitched it and road back to the dairy. He came back with a pair of huge Belgians and just sucked that rig right out of the mud. What a great day for a 9 year old.
