Okanagan in June

June is a wonderful time to see the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia.

Brian your pictures are, as always, beautiful. You were in similar terrain as our recent trip to central WA. Red Wing Blackbirds were certainly the dominant song of our trip! I loved the Yellow headed ones too. And we had rattlers and marmots too!

I've never heard of Kekuli Bay Provincial park - a new place to put on our list. We use to vacation in BC all the time, but since pulling a longer trailer we haven't, as the cost of taking ferries to head north is astronomic, but we miss it so will have to plan a drive-around & go north soon!

Thanks for the pictures to entice us!

Penney

Penney:
Thank you for your great pictures and kind words. Kekuli Bay is near Vernon BC on Kalamalka Lake. It has no hookups but offers spectacular views of the lake, with lots of wildlife around -- more marmots than campers when we were there. There are also lots of wildflowers -- I'll post a few pictures of them.

We have camped on Whidbey Island and taken short trips to Port Townsend and Sequim. We need to make a trip to the Olympic Peninsula with Ladybug.

Kekuli sounds like our kind of place! We are mostly no-hook up folks. According to BC Parks web site it is a fairly new campground, probably why we never heard of it. It's on the list!

Two favorite places on the Olympic Peninsula are both county parks - Salt Creek near Joyce on the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and Dungeness. Salt Creek has some hook-up sites, but the best sites are amongst the trees, on a bluff overlooking the water w/ no hook-ups. Dungeness (no hook-ups) is my #1 favorite day trip to enjoy wildflowers, wildlife, smell the salt air and look at knock-out views of the Olympics. Stayed there 5 days last summer and walked a different trail nearly every day. (Just trying to entice you to visit the Peninsula again!)

Of course there are the campgrounds in the Olympic National Forest & National Park, they tend to be crowded in season. Mora is probably the best on the coast, its not actually on the ocean, but close to Rialto Beach, a spectacular beach in the park.

We had friends in a Bigfoot stay a night in our driveway last week, they thought our place pretty spectacular! But we're not on the water or have great views! (just wildlife, trees & power hook-up!)

Not great shots - but good for enticing........( do look a little better larger)

Wow! I remember seeing mustard fields like that in Idaho on way to Montana. Beautiful picture.

And Clive I love the Koi picture, the lighting and shadows really helps one feel the sereneness of the setting.

A couple from Banff and Jasper

Here are a couple of shots from my Banff and Jasper trip. One is of my wife at a tea house at the end of a trail, a very civilized way to hike. You can see the tea set in the reflection. The others are of Medicine lake, a waterfall and the rivets on a train. Had a great time hiking and shooting. What makes it even better is that I got my wife into shooting and she likes it as much as I do. This way I have more time to set up and shoot without the "Are you almost done yet".

Check the thread, 'A Cut Above', about wood carving. I would love to see some of your decoy carvings.

Antelope Canyon, Page, AZ

On a trip this summer I took the photo tour (twice) through the Upper Antelope Canyon, a slot canyon on the Navajo reservation outside Page, AZ. I definitely recommend taking the photo tour for anyone interested - it is a very busy place with multiple tour companies & they do a great job of getting the areas of the canyon clear for shots empty of people. More photos & information at Antelope Canyon. While you are in Page, also check out Horseshoe Bend, a 1000' high overlook at a 180 degree loop in the Colorado River a few miles south of Page:

Oh, wow, some beautiful work on this page!

Lately I have been exploring the macro side of life and have really fallen down the rabbit hole of insect photography. They are bizarre and monstrous and the perfect foil for my love of clown colors.

Carol, thank you. I have the Nikon 105mm f/2.8. I am very happy to have the VR because sometimes there's not a ton of light when I've crawled under a bunch of foliage to find a spider, and shutter speeds kind of slow down a bit.
