Prepare for the solar eclipse!

May 20, 2012 there will be a solar eclipse across the SW corner of Oregon, much of northern CA, almost all of NV, northern AZ & southern UT, and central NM!

My astronomy program tells me that at my position near Seattle, we will have 83% totalitarity. For you folks farther south, it gets better.

Plan for the day now. At least don't panic when it starts to get dark about 5 pm.

Warning!

NEVER look at the sun directly. Use a telescope to project an image, or something to give a dim reflection. Burned retinas are not repairable. The pictures show how I viewed the one in June 2002, (48%)

We had one yesterday when I walked between the solar panels and the sun and cast a big shadow.

Very Cool. Nice rig you have there for eclipse watching.

I recall a total eclipse in 197? when I was in 5th grade. It might be the reason I ended up with a BS in astrophysics.

Far east-north California is an excellent place to sky watch. Harmonic convergence, you know ;-/.

I'm up for it. Commence planning.
