Certainly as Iconic as the Buddy Holly site . And Ironic , as that crash also should never have happened. The Convair had problems with fuel for days at least ; they decided to 'chance it' .The spot is harder to find and get to . But just as tragic !

Multiple visits to unusual places
One of my favorite places to visit is the solitary gravesite of a young, 13-year-old cowboy who died on a cattle drive. I have visited there three times even though the location is not on the direct route to anywhere. It is a beautiful spot and I always stop and spend a few minutes contemplating. I feel that the young cowboy probably appreciates a bit of company.
The location is in the Carson National Forrest near the New Mexico/Colorado line. Some wonderful off-grid campsites in the area but the roads are too rough for passenger cars.

Twice a year (at least before Covid hit) at the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas is the Winter Dance Party. It's a stage show that honors the Day the Music Died. I've seen the show many times, and will go back again when it starts up. The person who plays the Big Bopper is his son. The person who plays Richie Valens sounds exactly like him, and can he rock his guitar. When Buddy Holly comes on stage you have to look in aw. The person who plays Buddy Holly looks exactly like him and sounds exactly like him. Buddy has be reincarnated! And the price $35-45. Almost like being in Iowa!

James Dean Sep 30 1955 RIP
I think the intersection of state highway 46 and state highway 41 qualifies as California's Central Coast. This is of course the location of the car collision that took the life of James Dean. This was in the days when you could drive a race car, in this case a Porsche 356 Speedster, on the open road.
My favorite pastime is boondocking on BLM land in the western states. I have happened upon so many final resting sites, truly in the middle of nowhere, that I am no longer surprised by them. I always have a few minutes to offer respects.
regards to all, Hugh

We usually fish a private crappie event at lake Sugema in late April. We camp at either the Van Buren county CG or at Lacey Keosauqua state park. The event is in a Friday so on Saturday we go to Cantril for a shopping event. They have great hanging flower baskets, bulk staples, bulk candy, annuals and perennials. I usually buy a pair of leather gloves too that are made in Fairfield Iowa. There’s a fairly significant Amish population in that area so they do a pretty good business and on weekends people drive in from some distance sometimes just for a few dollars worth of goods they know they can get there

We used to live near there, right after we were married, Thornton, IA, just south of Clear Lake. Both teachers. Drove past the Surf Ballroom many times.

I was there with a Jayco 5th wheel and F350, so I know my Scamp will fit. Last time I could not walk to the crash site but will this time. I will also take something to leave behind, maybe some 1959 coins?
