1973 SurfSide
Hi everyone. Just thought I would post a quick note and a couple photos out here to let everyone know that there is a new SurfSide residing in the BC Interior. My Dad picked it up and brought it back from near/certain death in someone's backyard a couple years ago. I'm now the proud owner (after a bunch of his sweat, tears and cursing) and I'm looking forward to a full year of campouts with my wife and kids. The trailer is apparently a 1973 bunk-in-the-front model. Photos are of the way it looked in the winter of 2011, I'll try to take some pics of what it looks like now. It appears that it might have fallen off of someones hitch years ago and it damaged the door frame quite bad, but it still opens and closes! Eventually I'll try to tackle the cosmetic issues of the door opening, but for now it will remain ugly. Love this website as I have perused many forums over the past few months.

I would have given you the fridge, but it ended up at some recycler in Alberta. My Dad replaced the fridge when he started cleaning it up. The old one was abused and not working.

Howdy, Cousin!
I say that 'cause Surfsides and Trilliums share so much design-wise that I'm pretty sure we have the same ancestor somewhere...
Just dropping in to say hello and give you a heads up that I stumbled over an E-bay ad for a "Surfside Owner's Manual CD" that might interest you. I know nothing more about it than what you'll see at this link:

A question for those more familiar with Surfsides than I am:
I'm perplexed by the "1973" model year given for this trailer...doesn't that predate the Trillium 4500 upon which (or so I've been told) the Surfside was based???
Thanks!
Francesca

hummm had not heard the Trillium connection before. Triple E the company that built the Surfside was owned by a company called Neonex - which also happened to be the same company that bought out Boler in about 73.
Edited: Its my understanding that a fellow from Manitoba designed the Surfside and the Beachcomber (at least according to his son).

Joe at Trillium / Outback told me that there was a law suit launch by Trillium. Something about copying their design. Trillium lost.

I know there was a conflict between Outback (Team Trillium, Canada) and Tom Young (Trillium RV, USA, who holds rights to the name), which did result in some kind of settlement wherein Outback agreed to rebrand their trailer...but was there also one between the early Trillium company and Surfside way back when?

Some Interior Photos
Finally had a chance to take some pics of the interior. Just got finished with having fun with some red paint a few days ago! Summer temperatures in the BC Interior this coming week, can't wait to get out there!
