1977 13 foot Scamp

Hi I have had my 77 Scamp since 1994.

Time passes and I am now stripping out the entire thing and putting it back together.

I love all the pictures on this site and hope I can come close to the quality that some of you have acheived!

currently scraping and scraping to get the "elephant skin" off the walls.

Hi Judy, welcome to FiberglassRV What do you plan to replace the ensolite with? Inquiring minds want to know...

That is the BIG question right now. probably some kind of marine headliner, but I am open to suggestions. I am also concerned about how to get around the windows...I guess I'm going to have to take them out.

Well, it's not mine, but yes... I'd take the windows out. Since you're putting all this work into it, you'll want to make certain the windows, etc. are leak free for a loooong time. Was the ensolite in bad shape and that's why you're removing it? There's a member.. in the "wanted" forum that's looking for a piece. Maybe you can help her out?

I don't think anyone would want of piece of this. 34 year-old dirty soggy stuff. Unfortunately, to get it off it is all in tiny pieces too.

I am trying to upload a picture...

Hi neighbor and welcome to the forum. We're just over the hill in Brookfield. I see you folks still have snow. You're going to have a tough year for tomatoes Raz

I remember it well. My 77S13 came complete with squirrel nests (possible mice/rats etc) inside and under the elephant skin. Had to cut out the furnace and frig. We were slowly progressing when Hubs became ill. I now have a half finished Scamp and am rethinking some of what we started.
I ended up scraping those little pieces of foam with a paint scraper followed by a stiff brush.
I used the bubble and mylar insulation (auto parts or JC Whitney) and rat fur (from Scamp). Some places did come loose where I did not get enough glue.
It will be such a big deal when you get it done.

Hi Raz,

Smile

It may be hard work, but it is all fun when there is Scamp camping ahead. Keep smiling it will be an accomplishment.
We did have to replace the axel. Thought we might as well take the opportunity to see the country and drove it back to Minnisota. Only problem was that while they we were working on the trailer we went exploring and I crushed my shoulder and got to see a couple of hospitals and use some really wonderful pain numbing drugs. Well, that put me out of the business of working on the Scamp for about two years. The Scamp is usable, but not where I want it to be. Well, I have nothing but time.
Do check the works inside your hitch. I was towing along last year and hit a bump causing the worn, original works to break inside the hitch. It popped off the ball and swung on the chains until the ball came to rest piercing the fiberglass. There is some fiberglass work ahead of me.
I had the works inside the hitch replaced as well as the cranking jack, which scraped the handle off in the hitch fiasco. It is all an adventure!
