1980 Boler 1700

Hello all,

As this is our first summer with our 1980 Boler 1700 I have become an avid reader of fibreglassrv and I wanted to introduce our boler to the forums.

At the beginning of the summer we purchased the boler. My wife had done quite a lot of research on the topic and although I must admit I was a little hesitant about getting a camping trailer at all, but once it was in our possession we started enjoying it almost immediately and have used it throughout the summer.

Things we have done:
-Lifted it ~4"
-resealed the front window
-removed belly band and rusted out screws in the back.
- a good clean in and out but we have a long way ahead...

We need to:
-Replace screen door.
- fix door sag and attempt to get lock working
-replace floor
- reinforce bunk to hold an actual human
- replace insulation (we live in the Yukon)
- replace lights with LEDs.
- patch gel coat
-replace roof vents
-reseal all windows
- paint frame
- too more to mention

To be honest it's in ok shape for its age but there are just so many things that Ned attention. Ah well bit by bit.

Anyway, a big thanks from someone who is now an almost fanatical fgrv owner to all the other fgrv owners out there who have taken time to post their knowledge; hopefully I shall join your ranks soon.

Thanks,

Jason

Welcome to the Egghead crowd! Looks like you have a very roomy camper there. What you've done so far is looking great, and it's only going to get better as you continue to make progress. Keep posting photos, we love to see the updates!

Welcome to the forum. I think the "bit by bit" approach is the one that allows for happy ownership of an older egg. I think some people look at the list of work required to rehab an older egg and give up before they even start

Will you be using your egg when the snow flies? How long is the camping season in your part of the woods?

Ron

Hey thanks everybody for the kind replies. Ron, the camping season for us might end pretty soon. Days are around 15-20• C but the nights are around zero right now and the boler is a bit chilly then (missing ensolite in corners, and also it is very thin at any rate). Seeing as we're in the Yukon I'd kind of like to superinsulate it but we'll see.

Thanks
Jason
