Not sure what you mean by replacing the door. if you are talking about the service door you drop to
light it, that usually comes with the new water heater. Replacing mine was a yes all day job. And yes I am pretty handy. And a couple part really required me to go into the house and tell my housemate to put her shoes on. ;-) The plumbing changed a bit and took a couple of parts. But not a lot.
OK my job actually took about four days. But that was a bit over an hour removing the old on. Two plus days repairing the water damage from the fact it actually had been leaking for over a year. Then about 4 hours to put the new one in. And about another like an hour sealing things up and testing. And I had a couple extra drying days in the repair where I just had to let it sit but did not have to work on it. BUT
without the damage I am pretty sure I could have replaced it in a single day.
