Downsized! Charley found a Burro 13'

Sold my 1986 Toyota Class C, 21' Dolphin a couple of weeks ago. Could not stand doing without, and found a Burro for sale a mere 5 hours away.
Kinda rough, punctured roof and ceiling, lot of "deferred maintenance". It was never built up much, pretty basic.
Very pleased to find FGRV, as I have learned from the Toyhome crowd and Concours Owner's Group there are great folks out there with some of the same peculiar hobbies as myself.

I am in Asheville NC and sorry to say I won't be able to join the rally at Cherokee NC next week. I have another peculiar hobby, Contra dancing, and I will be calling a dance in Columbia SC that weekend.

Anyhow, the Burro is not ready for prime time. Heck it is not even tagged yet...
I was delighted to find the manual for the Burro. But I have a question. Is there a way to tell the year of production? I have never found a manufacturer's plate.

Thanks All,

Charley

Welcome, Charley....Craig and I are just down I-26 from you in SC.

We're Scamp owners, so unfortunately, can't help with any Burro info. though the title might say what year it is.

Hope to see you out and about soon.

Josie

If the trailer is 1981 or newer, then the 10th digit of the VIN is the date code. There may be nothing more than a VIN stamped into the metal of the tongue, and not a manufacturer's plate.

Thanks Cathy, had a choice between the Burro and a rougher Scamp. Went for the headroom. Having fun cleaning it up, re plumbing and rewiring.

Thanks Fredrick. Have not found it yet. Titled as a 1978.

1978? Was Burro even manufactured in 1978??? Seems to me it was later than that....

Charley, (got it right this time maybe), please send out some photos when you get going on that. Would love to see them. If there was a new Burro around, I would snap it up (can't manage rehab anymore myself, will leave that to the people like you who I know are good at it!)

Well I was wrong! I found this post by Roger H that gives some history about the Burro: http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f...html#post42160

Cool and good for your Charley!

This Charlie (note different spelling ) with a Burro would love to see a comprehensive history of the company along with information about options available at various times and popular modifications. Over the years of manufacture (and since) there have been so many changes, and since campers are such personal items and so frequently modified and "updated" it's sometimes pretty difficult to pin down who did what to which and when. I guess in the FGRV market, "original" doesn't carry quite the cachet as seen in collectible cars, etc. but it's still nice to know what is "proper" and "original equipment" on a given vintage camper, and to know what options might have been available when your pride and joy was born!

Hadn't seen the Roger C H material previously. Interesting to note that the molds for the Escondido variation are in Mexico and that the layup was also done there. Per Walthinson and I had a conversaton earlier this yr. concerning the bilateral assymetry of the Escondido product with particular regard to the area around the rear window. His a 2000; mine a '98. The fellers that did right and left plugs were free spirits (or free with the spirits) or they didn't speak to each other as there are discrepancies very obvious to the eye. Pretty easy to alter a plug; not quite so easy once a mold has been lifted. Although I'd have to say that mine is a pretty good old trailer for all that.

Congratulations and welcome to the Burro clique!

jack, I am pretty sure the guys who carved out the cabinet holes on my 1980 (Sac City?) model were high when they did the work. There's a certain freehand look to the whole thing.
