Fiberglass RV Wanna Be

Hello Everyone!
My husband and I are excited about attending the NE Eggbeater Rally in a couple of weeks. We are, as the title says, FBTT wannabe's and John and Nancy have been so kind suggesting that we attend and bring our questions.
We have narrowed our search to the Casita, the Parkliner, and the Scamp. We are also in the market this Fall for a new vehicle, so will be looking to know how much we have to tow before we buy a vehicle. We are thinking we can't go wrong with a (used) Toyota Highlander.
Looking forward to seeing the Nor'Easters in NY soon!

Jude & Ed

Welcome, Jude and Ed!

A Highlander with factory tow package* would pull most of the offerings from all three manufacturers. Beware tongue weight on the Casita 17'ers, though- around 425 pounds is typical. You may need to use a weight distributing hitch with that model. Also consider how much gear you might want to bring with you. Tow ratings assume a driver and front passenger, but no extra people or cargo in the vehicle.
* depending on model year

Happy "egg hunting"!

Hi Jude,

Welcome!!! Great job narrowing your search to fiberglass egg campers! You have also chosen three outstanding examples. Laura and I love our '05 Casita 17' Freedom Deluxe that we purchased used in the Fall, '15. We have been in many Casitas, several Scamps, and a couple of Parkliners.

Going to a rally will intensify your desire for an egg camper. We are in our 2nd season of camping and will do 5 rallies this season. In fact, we visited a rally in the Fall, '15 with the thought of seeing an egg camper and if they looked as good in person as they did on paper the plan was to get one in a few years after the kids were out of college. We loved the rally, egg campers, and people so much, we bought our Casita one month later!!! We missed out on a Scamp due to not moving fast enough, but no problem, the Casita is the perfect trailer for us.

Wishing you the best on your Eggscursion!

Take care,

Dean

We are a little south of that rally but have never attended. A few years ago we bought a used Casita SD17. Didn't have a tow vehicle that would handle it, found a low mileage Dodge Ram pickup and bought it. The truck has worked good for us. There is, or was a few days ago, a Casita 17 on NH craigslist.

Congratulations! Now comes the hard part.........the wait. We ordered our Snoozy December 2016. Picked it up in September. The waiting period was so hard but in all reality it wasn't so bad! Our adventures have started and we're loving every minute of it!

good for you

I think you have made excellent purchases both things. I like the fact that these trailers are not mass produced and the owners seem to take time to get things right there are always flaws of course.

Good luck on your wait wait
