flower child awning

Hi we bought a 1980 13 ft. scamp. We need an awning that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. We are retired and need one that fits the unusual curves of the scamp. If anyone can help much appreciated.

Not sure how you define "an arm and a leg" but compared to expensive case awnings these vintage "Rope and Pole" style are priced pretty good. You get the awning, poles, ropes and tensioners with your choice of fabric colors for $220.

A homebrew awning

We opted to make our own ... strips of industrial velcro along the Trillium's roof, matching velcro sewn onto ripstop, rope, bungee cords, tent stakes & poles

It's not elegant but it works even in the winds of Nebraska and NC's OuterBanks. The first year we used saplings ... the next year we bought the adjustable tent poles . It is simple to put up, take down, and (most importantly to us 13 footers) easy to store!

Search for Pam's Uhaul posting on her awning that she made.

We use a FirstUp screen house propped against the trailer. Keeps the bugs out.

I'm not finding Pam's instructions for making her UHaul awning, but I did find LOTS of discussions about awning options! Have a look at some of these...

Also, of course, just click on the hotlinked word awning, and a bunch of related topics will come up... it can be hard to wade through the search results, so good luck (and happy reading).

I'm nearly six days behind in my reading Marilyn, but wanted to welcome you to FiberglassRV. As you can already tell, folks are kind and helpful. Hope we're able to get the information you need. This is the best I can find for Pam's instructions: Pam's U-Haul Awning

I ordered this awning yesterday and just received it from UPS. I opened the box and it includes the bag, awning, poles, and stakes. I did not seee any rope but for the cost savings, I can supply the rope, no problem. I was going to replace the factory rope with the glow-in-the-dark rope anyhow.

The color is bamboo which is a lighter shade of brown which will compliment my interior nicely.

Another feature of this awning is a very heavy duty zipper sewn onto the front and down both sides to accomodate a screen room.

I am very, very happy with my purchase and my experience with Tri-State Surplus. They have a LOT of RV parts, namely axles with brakes for not a lot of money.

I will be checking with them first before I buy anywhere else.

I will takes pictures after I get it on the next time I go up North to camp in my Scamp.

Marilyn, if you're interested in a nice DIY awning that's cheap, check out this thread by James (who hasn't been around for a couple of years): http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f...diy-21715.html
