Hi!

This is Jan (and Steve). We are almost-empty-nesters who are searching for our first non-pop-up RV. We've admired fiberglass trailers for years and think that they are perfect for us. We would like to keep our fuel-efficient vehicles without having to give up on camping. Our hope is to learn from all of you and to find our new home on wheels.

One helpful resource to get you started is the Trailer Weights in the Real World thread. It has scaled, loaded-for-camping weights of various makes and models. Post #297 links to a spreadsheet of the data. That, combined with the towing section of your owner's manual, will help you figure out what is possible and what is not.

Another is the 2017 Rally Map. Visiting a rally is one good way to get a look at different makes and models, since you won't find them at your local RV dealer or RV show. Most welcome a day visitor, and some have scheduled open house times. Contact event coordinators for advice about scheduling a visit.

Welcome to the forum. As you go along, you may want to post your vehicle and trailer information where it can be seen on posts. It helps folks know what you have when questions arise.

As an example, I entered "2012 Casita FD 17 - 2010 Audi Q5" into the 'RV Brand' field about halfway down the 'Edit Your Details' page. That is one of the fields that will display beside posts.

As a fair warning, you should probably understand here and now that the first answer you get to a question posted on the forum will inform you and make you feel correspondingly confident in your newly-gained knowledge.

The second answer will be mainly in agreement, but will also have some subtle differences for you to ponder.

Then, by the time we have all chimed in, you will be helplessly confused just like the rest of us.

At least, that's the way it always works for me!
