Hello from Missouri

Hello, my name is Scott. My Wife and I just purchased an Escape 23 Twin bed floorplan. Looking forward to joining the fiberglass RV community.

Welcome to the group, Scott, and congratulations on the new Escape! I think yours may be the first 23'er we seen (in this group at least).

If you have a chance to get to a CAT scale during your travels, we'd love to have some real-world weight data on this model for our "Trailer Weights in the Real World" database. It compiles fully loaded gross weight, tongue weight, and axle weight for different fiberglass makes and models.

You can post your data in the thread below (click the arrow) or send it directly to member Jon Vermilye. The link takes you to a spreadsheet of the data, and his e-mail is in the spreadsheet.

Thanks Jon. Never thought about weighing this one because I tow with a Ram 2500 HD. If I do, however, I'll add the details to the spreadsheet.

I’m guilty, too. We tow a 13’ Scamp with a Honda Pilot, and I’ve always wanted to weigh it, more for curiosity than necessity. However, it seems that every time we get it actually loaded for travel, I haven’t managed to find the time.

Now that the kids are grown and the Pilot is pushing 300K, we’ll probably downsize our tow vehicle at some point. I really need to get with the program!

My 2nd trailer was all aluminum toy hauler. It was only 25', 3,300 lbs dry, with a supposed tongue weight of 650 lbs. I bought it specifically to tow with my new Toyota Tacoma, a small mid-size truck. My Tacoma could not handle towing it at all. In an effort to make it all work, i must have weighed the setup 10 times. I even bought a tongue weight scale. Turns out the tongue weight was not 650 lbs, but 890 lbs. Even when I put my 950 lb Harley in the back, the tongue weight was still way too much for my little truck. It was very interesting making adjustments to WDH links, moving cargo, etc. to make it all work. Ultimately, I traded my brand-new Tacoma for an F150 which solved the problem. Talking about all this is making me want to go to the Cat scales, LOL.

I'm amused when people say "my trailer weighs this" because the dealer said so.
Most manufacturers don't include some items such as batteries, propane, air conditioner, etc.

A trip to the scales is a good idea, we just added a tow vehicle (Kia Telluride) and I wanted to get the numbers. I need one more trip to the scales because the Andersen hitch brackets moved on the frame affecting my weight with the chains tensioned and I'll probably weigh the Casita on the scale alone.

I found some scales at a fuel facility that's closed on Sunday but the scale is accessible for doing experiments without getting in the way at a busy truck stop.

I also weighed the vehicle by itself with a full tank of fuel.

This is a useful forum. There is also an Escape specific forum at:

https://www.escapeforum.org/

There are Escape Facebook groups as well, but I don’t belong to FB so can’t provide details on those.
