Hello! From Pittsburg California

Hello,

I’m Szczepan, from Pittsburg California. Looking for a fiberglass trailer I can tow with an EV. Currently researching a 77 Trillium. Any advice or suggestions are highly appreciated. Thanks.

There are several fairly recent threads about EV towing, including information about range and charging from real-world EV owners with small molded trailers. You should be able to find them using the Google search bar at the top of the page. (If you’re using a mobile device, you’ll need to scroll down and choose “view full site.”).

Obviously you’ll start with what the EV manufacturer says in the owner’s manual about towing. What vehicle will you be using? Trilliums come in several sizes, with the most common 13’ model a good choice for the right EV.

Still debating on the EV. For the time being it would be towed with a Subaru Ascent. Since we are planning on going EV soon we want the weight as low as possible.

Unless you’re committed to a single vehicle for all purposes, why not keep the Ascent for towing and winter driving and purchase a small EV for daily commuting?

If you’re determined to have a single vehicle, the RAV4 Prime PHEV is a nice compromise for towing a small molded fiberglass trailer like the Trillium without range or campground charging limitations.

For an EV you’re probably looking at something like the Tesla Model Y, Honda Prologue, or similar.

Thanks. We’ve definitely considered the RAV4 as the second vehicle. We have a big dog and a small child so the ascent has been a perfect size. Super reliable on cross country trips. The only and biggest down side is 20-24mpg. If it was a hybrid we probably wouldn’t look for a second car. We’re hoping the EV can offset some fuel cost since we do a lot of shorter trips as well. Usually less then 250 miles.
