Hello From Texas!

Complete newbie to trailers and towing vehicles. Currently I'm looking for a towing vehicle for a light trailer - I'm looking at the V6 RAV4 with AWD. Then I'll be looking for a fiberglass trailer.

Welcome! This is the place we learned about fiberglass trailers and towing in '05 and have been happy with a fiberglass! We started small with a 1985 Scamp standard off eBay and now have a beautiful 2011 Escape 19' found on this site! Enjoy! Find trailers close to you and ask to visit...AND drop by any fiberglass rally and get the tour of your life! We looove to show our little eggs to folks!

Howdy Ray

Welcome Aboard Ray,

If you are anywhere near Rice, TX, you will likely find it helpful to tour the Casita factory located there. http://casitatraveltrailers.com/ You may not want a Casita particularly if you are over six feet tall, but you will find it informative. Some of the other manufacturers have more headroom. I am also shopping. I found it very educational and fun to pack a tent and attend an egg rally. The people are very friendly and amazingly helpful. You can see trailers from several companies in one place. Rallies, Get-togethers, Molded Meets (Upcoming) - Fiberglass RV I suggest spending some time asking yourself exactly what you want from your travels. As your answer becomes more specific, you will have a better idea of which trailer will provide the experience you seek. Unless you have already fallen in love with a RAV4, you may wish to pick your trailer before settling on a tow vehicle. As an example, if you buy a RAV4 and fall in love with a Casita 5th Wheel, you're in a pickle.

Happy Hunting,
Ken

I agree it's better not to commit to a new tow vehicle purchase until you settle the trailer. Casitas are plentiful in your area, but a RAV4 is not a good match for the Casita 17' models, their most popular.

Welcome to the forum, Ray!

Thank you guys, I am sorry for taking so long to respond. I kind of had a baby right after posting this and have spent the past few months just trying to survive. I greatly appreciate everyone's help. I did end up with the RAV4 because I found one that was just a really good deal. Now I'm going to try to turn it into a good TV and my neighbor just happened to run into my car so it seems like a good time to get a trailer hitch installed.
