I'm with your wife on that. I'd much rather tow a longer trailer than a wider one. Makes for a corridor-like layout, but I like trains...
I learned to tow at 16 with our family's Skamper tent trailer. With a 14'x7' box, it was a fairly large one, as tall as our station wagon when closed, and maybe 8" wider on both sides. Back then we had only the jiggly fender-mounted towing mirrors, which made for some white knuckle driving in congested traffic on the East Coast. Before the Francis Scott Key bridge, heading south meant a detour through downtown Baltimore to avoid the tunnel.
The InTechs aren't as bad because the body is narrow. Visibility is better, but you do have to be super careful of the wide outboard wheels.
