Talking Hi from New York!

Hello all!
I'm a newbie to RVing. I bought a new 2010, 17' Casita Spirit Deluxe last August after "Jonesing" for about 10 years. I drove from New York and, picked it up at the factory. I then headed right out to the Burning Man Festival in Nevada's Black Rock Desert. It was also my first time at Burning Man. All in all, when I think of the things that could have gone wrong, I had an amazingly smooth trip. I've retired recently so, this June, I'll be on the road again; this time for several months. My tow vehicle is a 2004 Toyota Sienna. I bought it new and, ordered it with the factory tow package (I did have to add a brake controller and upgrade Toyota's Class 2 hitch to a Class 3 hitch). My Casita towed beautifully, even over the Continental Divide. I'm sure I have a lot to learn. I'll try to search the forums before posting to see if my questions have already been answered. I'm looking forwards to meeting other members at various RV events.

Smile Welcome

You have had quite a trip to initiate your new rig.

It speaks to the quality that you could do a trip like that in a factory fresh rig.

I think few stick builts can make that claim.

Again, welcome to the forum and if you get near the west coast, try to attend one of our gatherings.

Hi FlyGuy,
Welcome from another Long Islander (Sea Cliff)!!
Enjoy your new trailer, we will keep our eyes open for you on the LIE. Suffolk county has some nice parks, especially off season when less crowded, so you can always go enjoy the trailer.
Have fun,
Marjie

Hi Don W!
I appreciate the invitation but I'll have to take a rain check. In July, I'll be in Oregon for two events in the first two weeks and then the last week, I'll be heading to Oshkosh, WI for AirVenture. After that, I'm planning to head to Montana (one of the few states I've never been to) before catching Burning Man again in August. Now, if Japan stops leaking radiation and, the gas prices ease a bit, I'll be all set!

Hi Marjie!
I expect that when I head out, it will be at an ungodly early hour so as to miss all that traffic. I'm thinking if I'm on the road at 300AM, I can be off Long Island and, through the worst part of NJ before the AM rush. I recently bought a Suffolk County "Green Pass" which gets me discounts at county facilities. I recently retired and, am still tying up loose ends. I haven't been able to get away locally as I had hoped. Things should settle down in the fall.

Hi Roger,
I spoke with several Casita and Scamp owners before I bought my Casita. Everyone spoke highly of their units and, a number of them owned their campers for many years. One gent had recently bought his second Casita. Another had sold his Casita and bought an Airstream because his wife wanted more room. He said he was actually happier in the Casita. I didn't have time to see the whole Casita factory. I would actually like do so one day. I',ve never towed a camping trailer before and, this had been my first experience with RVing. I tried to think of every contingency and, I guess I did a pretty good job. I had two minor problems; both of them my own doing. All my equipment performed great. Eventually, I will make it out to the west cost. I look forward to meeting you then.
