Hi From Northern Minnesota
Hi everyone,
I am new to the forums and came across the forum as we have been searching for a used 13 foot scamp with a bathroom for quite sometime. Scamps are made about 1.5 hours away from us. We have been debating to get the small 13 footer to pull with our Jeep Wrangler (we love taking rides in our Jeep!) Not sure if that is the ticket for us or move to the 16 footer and use one of our other Dodge 4x4's. Anyway, already love the forum and appreciate all the helpful posts.
My website to my family business is listed if you want to know a little more about us. I am now a carpet cleaner and fire-flood restoration business but was a High School Band Director for 25 years also. My wife and I are hopeing to maybe get a little time to camp a bit this summer (even though we live on a lake...LOL)

Hi again . Years and years and years ago I played in my HS band... brass instruments... french horn, trumpet and treble baritone. Don't think campgrounds would appreciate my music from those ... guess I'd better stick to a harmonica or string instrument. Thanks for teaching teenagers to appreciate music!

Welcome from another Minnesotan. I have a 13' Scamp and a partially completed teardrop trailer (fine for one or two). Bought the Scamp to use while I finish the teardrop, but I just might keep them both.
Be sure to check out the rallies coming up this year in Minnesota. There's one in Bemidji June 13-17, and another south of Duluth in the fall Sept. 19-23. Look under Forums > Rallies > and scroll down to the ones with MN in front.
Hope to see you at one or the other.
Take care,

Thanks again Donna. I am a trumpet player. My dad is also a trumpet player and I have been playing since the age of 3. I don't get the chance to play as often in the past 4 years since leaving teaching. Had a lot of great experiences playing semi-professional. One memorable experience was playing for Little Anthony and the Imperials and Sonny Geraci at a Casino in Iowa. Lot's of people and we did a full rehearsal and 2 full concerts all Back to Back. That was a killer show! Had Maynard Ferguson's band to our school and number of times and I am friends with a lot of the former players. Music has been a great thing that me and my family have been fortunate enough to have in our lives.
Thanks again and I hope my wife and I find a camper and some time to use it this year.

Thanks Lil M,
I am a graduate of Bemidji State and we have a family business also there. Of course we are not too far from Duluth. The weekend of the Duluth rally we are expecting our first grandchild! Can't believe I am going to be a grandpa!?

Congrats Mark! I'm still waiting for the first grandchild. Medical career paths and changing relationships have delayed my sons from making me a granny. I guess this is an opportunity to learn patience. <_<
Someone on the forum mentioned that there are new Scamps at the factory in Backus for reasonable prices. I took my '84 there to get a few broken bits replaced. They're very nice.
Take care,

Hi Mark,
Hope you can make the Bemidji gathering. Bring the trumpet. Will be interesting to see how our musicians jam with you? I am not musical so don't know how the fit would be. We have never had a trumpet before. Since we are at the fairgrounds we can feely make music.
I need to post at another place to see if they can use a trumpet.
Part of the reason we are not at the State Park is because they had a big frown when I mentioned our music makers.
We were at BSU from 69 on, so probably crossed paths.
Nancy

Thanks to his first band teacher, our son is now a professional musician playing in pit orchestras for two live theaters, in a small ensemble, playing for weddings, in churches, teaching oboe to private students, and teaching oboe, flute, and saxophone at Cornerstone Univ in Michigan. Thanks to you, also, from two retired teachers. I believe your Jeep would do a fine job towing a 16 ft Scamp or similar trailer.

Welcome Mark
Good to see you onboard Mark! You may see some of us from Manitoba at the Duluth Rally also. If you get a chance read the Rally Forum on our Manitoba Rally, we are very close to you. Its in August, in St Malo Provincial Park just 45 minutes north of the Canada/USA border. Reservations open for the camp sites on April 2nd and can go very fast! We have numerous Scamps that come up and a really nice group of people from Minnesota and the Northern USA.
Take care,

Welcome, Mark. Hope you find a trailer soon. Have you done any camping in the past?
I hope to come to north MN this June and spend some time. Probably start around Bemidji and work my way slowly east. Hopefully not too many skeeters. Should I bring a head net?

Mark,
Retired educators unite! I have a 1990 Casita 16' with bathroom. It's been completely restored...except for refrig replacement.
The restoration business does aircraft, but they did an excellent job on restoration and keeping "Toots" lightweight @ 1785 pounds, with 2 full propane tanks and a 50 pound battery. I've been towing with a Subaru Outback, 4 cylinder. No problems.
The hitch is about 3 feet long, so the RV itself measures about 13 feet by 6.5 feet.
'Toots" has been with me for only 1 summer of using it 2 or 3 times. Life situations change, or i wouldn't think about selling this gem.
I'm out of town from time to time....simpsonmona@ymail.com is the best way to contact me.

hey so cool to live so close to scamp. i just put 1645 miles on getting there and back this week.
theres a reason people are willing to drive all that way to get a camper. they are worth it.
my guess is you will get tired of looking for a used one before you find one. i know i did. and the new one was only a few thousand more then a good used one.
i feel this is one of my best recreational investments. just in travel costs over the next ten years i fully expect to save the cost of my scamp in hotel bills. not to mention fishing trips , and volunteer work i do with the DNR and sturgeon for tommorrow.
(johnny is a happy boy)
