Hi From Northern Ontario
New owner of a 1972 Truillium 1300 that needs some restoration. I have been looking for awhile, and was recently biking in my neighbourhood and could not believe my eyes! Negotiated a price then went home to research the truillium, that is how I found this website. Looking forward to connecting and learning from all of you!

Monday, leave Calgary, four days, or so, later arrive on Manitoulin Island.
Clearly, my plans are a bit less definite then yours Doug.

Killbear is "Near North", not northern Ontario. Beautiful place though. Marten River?
Where is the dividing line between Near North and Northern Ontario? Is it the French River?

Are you stopping at Thunder Bay? That and Manitoulin are two places I want to see.

Last time we stopped at Sleeping Giant park. Overpriced, but beautiful. We don't actually plan our stops. If someone gets tired of travel, or we see something interesting, (amethyst mine), then we stop. We usually camp at least once during the trip.
All the kids love to drive. The first trip to my dad's place, one of my twin daughters came running up to me after exploring my dad's lake front cottage on lake Manitou. She sad, "daddy!, daddy!, it's even better then drive!".
The stretch between Thunder Bay and the Sault Ste. Marie is some of the most beautiful road I have ever driven. It is also terrible hitch hiking territory. I was once stuck there for two days.

Thank you all for your warm welcome and funny comments. I will work on providing the pictures this weekend. Unfortunately, I am another four hours from Manitoulin, but if you are ever headed into Timmins, please look me up! I agree that the scenery from Thunder Bay to Sault Ste. Marie is stunning, my husband inherited a cottage on Lake Superior near Nipigon and it's truly a beautiful part of the country. I highly recommend the route around Lake Superior. As a true Northerner, every agrees that the dividing line is the French River, don't believe anyone from Muskoka (or crazy politician) that says that they live "up north"! Enjoy your weekend, I will be busy dissecting my new Trillium. Thanks

Yes, tmannila! Great comments about where the north really is in our province. After living 17 years in Thunder Bay and visiting family in Southern Ontario nearly every year (and driving that great route mentioned between Tbay and the Soo), we really got tired of S. Ontario people being so ignorant of our province for e.g. Oh, you live in Thunder Bay, that's near Sudbury. No that's NORTH Bay. Thunder Bay is a long two day drive from Toronto and then another day west before you leave Ontario!
Now we were in Muskoka a few days ago and it certainly feels like the north, lots of rock and water but it's far from being in Northern Ontario. Now in just over two weeks I'll be driving right across this large province on our way moving from S.ON to MB.

I lived in Bracebridge (in Muskoka), and we didn't call that Northern Ontario.
Now I live near Edmonton, Alberta, and we know that places south of the 49th parallel - like Timmins - are south.
I spent three days driving to Ontario a few years ago... then another three days driving through Ontario. Lots of nice scenery.
Welcome, Therese

Information is good. Lack of information is not so good, but misinformation is much worse. Check facts, and apply common sense liberally.

I think the dividing line is the Soo for northern Ontario, Near North would be Barrie.
