Hi, I am a Minnesota Casita owner

After 5+ years of longing for a fiberglass trailer, we took the leap from tenting and bought a '92 Casita 16' SD last summer. We took it out in September and it fulfilled its duties admirably in some severe weather. What would have been a miserable night in a tent turned out to be incredibly comfortable and even "cozy" for us, our two fairly grown sons, and two small dogs. Camping has always been a love of our family's and we are thrilled to take the adventure further!

Once things warm-up, I'm looking to replace the floor, reinforce the frame to support the floor better, and tackle several other maintenance and modification projects. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Welcome, Luke!

I know I’ve seen a long thread from several years ago involving the frame and floor of a 16’ Casita. The “site search/google” option at the bottom of the search menu is the best tool to locate old threads.

It was a pretty big project. Best wishes!

Welcome from another Minnesotan.

Too bad you don't have a warm or semi-warm garage space to work on the camper in the depths of winter...camping season is short up here!

Unless you are okay with losing the use of your investment by winterizing for 3-4 months per year, you would benefit by working toward 4 season capability. The place to start is with improved insulation. The two most leaky components are the floor and windows. Stephen

I'm afraid it could be one of those projects that blows-up exponentially. I like the idea of taking a thing and improving it while making it your own. The idea and the execution of it are two different things entirely!

I appreciate your reply and the shared information - thank you!

Camping season is much too short! We hope a camper will help extend it a little bit. At least we don't have to hesitate or change plans due to lousy weather like we have in a tent. We've weathered a few bad ones in a tent for sure and it's not fun... having a camper almost makes it fun!

Thank you for the link! Even before buying our camper I'd done some searching online regarding floors and other areas that commonly need attention. I am committed... I think
