My husband and I would like to resume camping (it's been a lifetime since we did). We own a VW Tiguan which can pull 2200 lbs. so we need something small, and preferably easy to maintain. Inexpensive, A bed for two, a kitchen, a table, and a porta-potty. And within two days drive from NJ would be nice (that seems to be the hardest part).

What is your budget? You can get a new Scamp 13' directly from the factory, 2 days drive from NJ to MN.

Your requirements are pretty easy to meet in almost any of the 13'ers.

Budget and condition are the two key parameters- how much are you willing to spend and how much work are you willing to do?

As you've figured out, finding one is the challenge. Checking all the fiberglass classified sites daily, including this one and www.fiberglass-rv-4sale.com, using a site like Search Tempest to track Craigslist within a specified radius, and posting wanted ads (be very specific as to size, price, features, and condition) can all produce leads.

Be ready to jump on a moment's notice. The best listings often sell in hours, not days. But be prepared to do a careful inspection and to walk away if necessary. There is an inspection checklist in the "More" tab at the very top of the screen- go to the "Document Center" and look for the "Buyer's Checklist."

With a limited budget and only two people, don't overlook the rear entry, pop-top models like Hunter Compacts and Trailswest Campsters. They are often less expensive than the more recognizable side entry trailers like Scamp and Burro in similar condition.

Hi Donna,


We are located in central Illinois, We have a 1998 Scamp Std. 13 that we are replacing with a new 13'. So, our existing 13' Scamp is now for sale.


The 1998 has A/C, furnace, fantastic fan, 110v. refrigerator, and propane cook top. All of the appliances work, we replaced all 3 tires and the battery last fall. The cushions were replaced recently and it has a vinyl floor. It is ready to camp in.
