Hi, I am Jeff, Compact Jr 1973

Hi,

My wife and I live in Seattle and just picked up a 1973 Hunter Compact Jr. in Phoenix AZ. This is our first time towing and owning a camper. Without any experience, we have high hopes of renovating over the winter and having it ready by summer. It does have a couple fiberglass cracks, but appears to be in good shape overall. I guess we'll find out as we dig in. I have been researching and reading up the Compact Jr. rebuilds on this forum for a while and I believe we can do this, especially with the knowledgeable people on this site

I will likely start a new thread for the rebuild and document all the progress and costs to help others like me in the future.

Jeff

Seems to have been well taken care of overall. Not that much wear and tear on it considering its age.

One thing I love about the Hunters is they will fit in almost any garage. Yours appears to be in superb condition, realize it is 47 years old!

I don't know if that hand water pump works or not, but if it doesn't, I'd think about rebuilding it rather than replacing it. New Valterra pumps have a problem: The housing isn't strong enough where the handle shaft and spout enter, so if you tighten the gland nuts around the spout or the handle shaft to try to stop a leak, the housing cracks.

The housing is chrome-plated plastic; it'd be better if it were die-cast zinc, and I have half a memory of seeing early pumps which had a metal housing. Yours looks quite old; if it is metal and leaks, I'd just buy one of the rebuild kits and try to rebuild it.

Welcome to the forum.

I'd say that handsome little trailer looks like a great way to start.
