Hi, I'm Michael and I hope I didn't make a mistake.

I've been on the hunt for a Casita for a year. I found a 2020 which I will be picking up tomorrow. My tow vehicle is a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee V8.

The Jeep has been a beater vehicle for me. My wife and I will use the Casita locally and decide if we want to invest in a tow vehicle with longer legs at a later date.

When I was a kid I loved the thought of driving an 18-wheeler. Going to new places and sleeping in the truck when you got tired appealed to me. Childhood dreams may be part of the reason for this purchase.

I tend to be a homebody. It's a limiting personality trait. I don't like hotels so I don't travel much anymore. I'm just trying something new to expand my bubble.

I signed up for this site because every time I research something this place has the answer. It seemed like the logical place to expand my knowledge base.

I appreciate the knowledge and hope to make myself useful.

Hi Michael, the nice thing about purchasing a molded fiberglass trailer is resale. If you try it for a year or two and don't like it, you wont have any trouble selling your trailer at a reasonable depreciation. Heck, you might even make a profit...

These trailers are easy to take care of (that's a big enjoyment plus), easy to tow, easy to set up and take down at the campsite. Another plus of owning a camper is even if you don't use it as much as you could, you will take many mental vacations in your head planning trips and that's a good thing.

No, I don't think you made a mistake. The mistake is never trying it in the first place. Happy camping.

My trip was a bust. I drove 1,140 miles and when I pulled up there was a plumber working a leak. The seller was testing the trailer out and found a problem with the sink. The plumber said it appeared to be a manufacturing defect.

I looked at the outside while he finished the job. Everything looked good. The plumber finished and I walked in to find the floor getting progressively softer the further back I walked. Whatever that leak was it had been leaking into the subfloor for 4 years. It wasn't bad enough to fall through, but it was spongy. I don't believe the seller knew anything about the problem.

I have several around me but they are not fairly priced. You just get tired of looking after a while.

Hi Michael,
Don't give up! It took me over 2 years to find our Bigfoot. Be quick and be ready, good deals are hard to find and don't last long.

Yeah that would be quite the undertaking to fix. But it has been done. Certain if you are handy it wouldn't be that hard just long. And this is a great place to come to find out how to do any kind of a repair big or small. But the person would have to give you an awful good deal to make it worth your while.

Actually that's another good example of why the manufacturer should put a different type of floor in them. With a stick built unit and that kind of floor is going to like a last longer than the unit. But this is the forum for fiberglass. And our units like last forever, and even without leaks the floors don't.

Hi Michael,

Dang, sorry it did not work out on the 2020 Casita! Keep looking. I think the market is a bit better for purchasing than anytime in the last few years. Still tough when it comes to molded fiberglass egg campers.

In late 2015, we were shopping. We missed out on a used Scamp 16. Could not move fast enough. Two weeks later, a 2005 Casita 17 FD popped up 225 miles away. We purchased it on the spot. LOL, the owner delivered it to our home following the purchase! The next month we purchased a used midsize SUV to tow it. We just got back from a 10 night trip that included our 400th night in the Casita since we started camping in 2016. 15 states visited. Towed over 35,000 miles. We love it!!! We could sell the Casita today for 20% more than we purchased it for in 2015.

Keep researching. Keep shopping. This site is a wonderful resource.

Take care,

Dean

Many of us have been there....looking for a trailer. Keep looking.....one will eventually come your way. As for the bad floor......the good news.....you found out about it before buying it. Good luck....

This may or may not interest you. We live in Canon City Colorado and are in the process of listing our 2007 Casita for sale in the next few days. It is in great shape and has always been garaged. We do not use it enough to keep it any longer. We used it last week for 5 days and that was the first time in 2 years. We also have another RV that we use a lot. I will answer any questions you have. If you might be interested call me at 719-204-0025 landline or 719-237-0206 cell phone but no texting as it is a flip phone. I've been a member on this site for several years. Jann Todd

Our other one is a 23 foot class C motorhome. Sometimes we just traveled in the motorhome doing one night stops and seeing things as we went like to Alaska. We also took our daughter and grandson on trips so we needed the larger RV. Sometimes we went and stayed in a campground for several days and needed a vehicle to get around in so the Casita fit at that time. We also belonged to 2 groups and one was a Casita group that is no longer around. Now at this time we think selling the Casita makes the most sense. We bought it new at the factory in 2007. I will be posting the ad tonight or tomorrow. I have to figure out how to do it.
