Hi I'm Troy with a 1976 13' Scamp

Hello Everyone,

It's wonderful to find such an active and helpful forum!

A few months ago we purchased a recently renovated 1976 13' Scamp. Our tow vehicle is a 2018 Ford Escape. We've already had it on several very fun and successful weekend trips. We're hoping to take it out for a two week trip after Labor Day.

The couple that we bought it from had spent a good bit of time fixing it up inside and out, new gel coat, new elephant hide inside, some new windows, woodwork, lights, etc. They ended up selling it after all that work when the wife decided it just wasn't big enough for her.

One thing that is interesting is it's obvious that their intended use case was exactly the opposite of what we intend. They removed all of the 12 volt systems and propane. For example they removed the cooktop and put in a microwave. They replaced the refrigerator with a 110v only dorm style fridge. And they mounted a small generator in a tongue box.

While we will keep the most of the 110v wiring, we hope to convert it's use to almost exclusively "off grid". I would like to reinstall a new 12v system and add solar panels. I am currently in the process of replacing the propane systems including a dometic cooktop and a Camco Olympian 3 catalytic heater. (I will start another thread with a couple questions that I already have about that process.) My background is electrical engineering so I'm pretty confident with electrical systems and wiring.

Even though we have many changes we want to make to "make it our own" we're already enjoying it immensely. It's a nice step up from the tent camping that we've done for years.

I hope to have many future pleasant interactions with the community here!
