Hi! It's Mary & Fred. We're still shopping.

Greetings Molded Fiberglass Fans,
Fred and I are shopping for a 17' to 19' and it's down to one of the Casitas or the Escape 17F1 or 19F2. Today, I'm curious if anyone has the Casita Freedom Deluxe with the 2 Captain Chair dinette. Does it make it easier for two (thin) adults to move around at the same time?
Also, will my 5'11' spouse hit his head on the doorway when entering. (There was a YouTube that mentioned that issue.)
One more thing, once we fill tanks and add our clothes, trailer gear and kitchen items, how much more will the trailer weigh. I am real new at this.
Many thanks!
Mary

While our glass trailer is not by the builders you mention the added weight for full tanks and gear is estimated to be about 400 to 450 lbs. This includes a Igloo cooler with ice for drinks and food overflow from our refrigerator.

Not much difference in the Freedom. Casita has a fairly narrow aisle.

Hitting your head on the door is an issue on many molded trailers (along with smaller RVs of all kinds). Most people get used to it after taking some bumps at the beginning, and a few put some padding on the top edge of the door. It's only an issue going out, because you naturally tend to lean forward when entering. We had a Chevy Roadtrek for a while, and the main entry door was a stock Chevy van door. That was a real head knocker!

Water is heavy, about 8# per gallon. Tank sizes vary, so you can do the math for each model. It is often unnecessary to carry a full tank all the time, just enough for lunch and flushing in transit. If you're dry camping, sometimes you can find a potable water source closer to your destination. I'd allow at least 400# for gear plus water weight. That's packing lightly. It can go much higher if you're not careful.

The only molded FG trailer I know of that has a doorway high enough to prevent head bumping is the long-out-of-production Eggcamper. The rest of us have learned to duck... and if we forget, our wonderful trailers remind us again!

I am 6'4" and have hit my head on the door once or twice in 12 yrs of Casita ownership. My wife is 5'7" and hits her head at least once on almost every trip. It's a learned skill. My wife is a wonderfu lady and a great cook....so there is that.

Just happened to see this view of the Casita Freedom aisle in a sale ad. It rather looks like the Freedom might have even less passing space than the Spirit.

Thanks! Visited Casita in Rice, TX yesterday and my knees hit the table post when I swiveled the captain chair around. No passing space in any of the models' aisles.

Thank you! After visiting the Casita lot, I'm looking at the layout of the Snoozy Twin which is 6'3" wide inside (6"5" outside--plus wheel width?). My search on this site doesn't find any owner comments. What do you kind folks know about the new Snoozy?

I would recommend searching "Lil Snoozy" and "Snoozy 2" within this site using the google search bar. In addition to a number of posts about both versions, there's one long thread that discusses the failure of Lil Snoozy and its resurrection as the Snoozy 2. The original company went Chapter 13 and took a lot of buyers' $10K deposits with it. The rights were acquired and the design revived as the Snoozy 2 by the original maker of the shells, making them a close business associate of the original owner. Hard to say if they were just another victim of the bankruptcy or to some extent complicit.

We've not heard a lot since then in this forum, good or bad, but I'd be very wary. For myself, I'd only buy a used one, but the twin layout is so rare, that could be a long and fruitless search.

You also might want to look for Snoozy groups on Facebook. That's where a lot of brand owners are now connecting as participation in old-school forums like this one declines. You might get more current data about whether trailers are being delivered and whether promised build dates are being met. Long build times and broken promises are a sure sign of a failing business.

I've looked inside of several Lil Snoozy's at fiberglass gatherings and they have so much room inside, there's even a twin bed version, really neat trailers but it's painful to think of the people that got burned with the original owner.

The thing I'm not too impressed with is the trailer frame looks like a small galvanized boat trailer, although it probably works well for the lightness of it.

There's one currently for sale on fiberglassclassifieds.com

Looking for a fiberglass RV

I have noticed that some people change out their captains chairs in their Casita because they take up a lot of space when they swivel. Just something to consider.

Sad that anyone got burned but to be clear, Allen, the founder and original owner, didn't burn anyone. It was the second owner that turned out to be less than honorable in his dealings.

I should have added that Lil' Snoozy is now being produced by the third or possibly fourth owner.

Thanks for the correction, and apologies to Allen, I didn't realize there were that many owners over the years.

Those captains chairs take up so much space that the table has to be much narrower. We have the Spirit Deluxe which has bench type seating and a larger side table.
