Hi new owner of 51 year old Trillium
My name is Heather and I reside in eastern Canada. Our new/old Trillium smells musty. Is there anything to help lessen that smell?

Check all the wood you can get to for rot.
If there aren't drain holes in the low spots of the cabin, drill some, and stand back while 50 years worth of primordial ooze drips out. Then flush out and clean those low spots.
Remove all cushions, curtains, or any other fabric, and wash, have them cleaned, or set them out in the sun for a few days.
Clean the interior thoroughly with Lysol or Pine-sol. Buy or rent a steam cleaner.
Have fun with your antique!

Once you have it thoroughly clean, you might try an ozone machine. Works great to get rid of cigarette smells in cars.

Welcome. Some good advise above.....also....I would add.....weather permitting.....open her up on hot days...spray something like Fabreze on the entire inside.....inside cabinets...walls etc.....run a fan and do this for as long as possible. Good luck...enjoy your project.

Hi heather. I too am in eastern Canada and just got my first fiberglass camper. I have had many campers in the past and I find keeping a tray of bbq charcoal hidden away in low places helps with that when the camper isn’t in use

Kill the source of the smell
I us an ozone generator in my trillium and the basement. Ozone doesn’t just cover up the smell, it kills the odour at the source. I can’t use Febreze glade or other similar products due to allergies. I even have a small generator that I keep in the fridge to deal with food odours.
You can find O3 (ozone) machines on Amazon.

Egad—not Fabreze! Not unless you want a strong, horrible-smelling perfume permeating everything, and impossible to remove!

I keep aluminum disposable pie pans in my fridges with standard household Baking Soda in them. It absorbs most odors quite well.
It will also help if you just leave a pie pan of Baking Soda sitting on the counter in the trailer too.

Dealing with mold
Hi there!
I’ve dealt so much with mold over the years. It’s not something to mess with! I would start by getting a chlorine dioxide room bomb. You can get a kit from Biocide for maybe $25. Reset chlorine dioxide also sells the tablets, and they are super helpful with questions. Seal up your trailer well and follow the directions, then air it out. It should make a huge difference and will help you find the areas that really need to be cleaned or replaced. After you’ve done that, just sniff around and the problem areas should start to reveal themselves. Replace what you need to, clean and bomb again. I’d look around plumbing, seams, AC, and all openings in the fiberglass, and ask in the groups which part of your particular trailer most commonly gets moldy. It’s so important for your health. Good luck to you!

I have a large ozone generator (available from Amazon) to kill and mould and mildew. I was told this by a friend who works in a shop that refurbishes least vehicles. Cigarette smoke perfumes, mildew, dirty diapers. It gets rid of all those.
Put the ozone machine in the trailer and run it for 12 hours. Next open up all the windows and let the trailer air out. The smell should be gone, but you still have work to do as others have suggested using disinfectant soap, etc. give everything a very good cleaning. Take cushions, curtains, carpets, and any other mouldy cloth or rugs, and put them outside in the sun for a day. Once you’ve cleaned everything, I suggest giving it one more ozone treatment.

Works well to remove scent as long as you air it out.....spray it on.....don't soak it......if you think Fabreeze is a horrible smell.....you wouldn't like my Aunt Mable.
