Honda CRV and Scamp 13

Hi, my wife Pam and I are brand new members.
We have already received great help from the forums.
I personally wish to thank Norm and Ginny from Florida, for their very helpful information regarding towing the Scamp 13 with a Honda CRV. Their advice helped us to go ahead and purchase a 2001 Scamp 13.
I still don't know how to navigate the website and thank Norm and Ginny direct, so am posting this this way.
Thanks,
Nissanka

Hi, Nissanka. There's information on navigating the website in our Forums 101 - Posting, Accounts, Basics thread. There is additional (more generalized) information hidden under the "FAQ" menu.

Hi!
I have a 2014 CRV and towed for the first time my 13 ft 72 TrailMite. I had no problems! Learning the backup procedures and still learning!
The best part was not having to crawl out of a tent in the morning and making my coffee inside!!!! YEA! The trailer is quite basic and needs work but to me it is great! I continue to search on FGRV for guidance on work to be done. At this time, staying within 100 mile radius!
Thanks to All!
Julie

I’ll put in a slightly negative note here... here in the hills of Central VA my 13’ Burro is about all my 2003 CRV wants to handle and perhaps a little more. I started out using a 2000 Asto minivan and a 1993 Blazer S10, both with Vortek V-6, and other than decreased gas mileage, they hardly seemed to feel the Burro was there. The CRV on the other hand is doing all it can to pull it up hills, and is being pushed when I try to slow it down. It seems I’m always breaking and wearing out stuff on my CRV when I’m using it to tow, so I am planning to go back up to a six cylinder or the biggest four I can find ASAP so hauling my 13’ FRGV isn’t such a stretch. Just my experience, YMMV.

Nissanka,

We're in Newfoundland and there os a member of FRV towing a Parkliner with a CRV here in Newfoundland. We had 250,000 miles on our CRV and never had a single problem and we were towing a Scamp 16. It is certain that we were not able to charge up the steepest hills but in reality those hills are relatively few and far between.

As to down hill runs our trailer has electric brakes and all the Honda had to handle in terms of braking was itself. I always suggest brakes on a trailer.

We wish you well with your trailer. Our son towed his Scamp 14 with a 2005 Honda Accord for more than a decade. He did add a transmission cooler to the Accord. If you have an automatic I suggest you also have a transmission cooler.
