I am New and I LOVE fiberglass trailers

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the forums of this site. My family and I have been searching for and falling in love with figerglass trailers for over 2 years now. We love the lightweight designs and variations. We are still looking and hope that the right trailer will want to become part of our family. Just need to find one we can afford that is close enough for us to tow home. We would love to find something that we can camp in right away and update or modify as needed. We have been lurking on the forums for a long time but it is time to jump in and say Hi. We love the input of all the members and especially reading about the updates and modifications. I have an entire binder of collected ideas thanks to all of you.

What condition can you accept
what will you be towing with
What is your approximate budget


Gotta say though, living in NV will be a bit of a disadvantage if only because they can be few and far between out there.

Bob you are absolutely right about few and far between compared to the eastern half of the country. We are looking for a 13 foot trailer to tow behind our Subaru Outback. The condition needs to be campable, we would like to be able to use it right away. We are selling our 2004 Kia Optima to buy a trailer so the price range will be around $4000ish.
I think my idea binder keeps growing because I have no idea what trailer will choose us. So I have ideas saved for trailers with or without bunks/bathrooms/iceboxes etc......

It seems like I have seen more showing up in the northern half of NV. Unfortunately, any that show up near Las Vegas, are snapped up by the peps in SoCal, where prices and demand are very high.

I was in your boat the last few months. Was looking at building a teardrop (even bought a HF trailer to start). While researching I stumbled upon this page and found the fiberglass trailers more suited to what I wanted. Followed advice given here, that is if you come across a good one be ready to jump on it quickly. My son and I drove out to Toledo (6 hr drive) to look at a 1976 boler (hence the name rocknboler). Looked good, but when we got there found out this was not what we wanted, lesson learned ask the right questions before you take the trip (ie Have mice gotten into it and soiled everything?)

Stumbled across a 1996 Scamp, drove 34 hours from NY to Iowa and back, in 44 hrs . Seller thought I was crazy (he doesn't know the half of it) but I survive and have a great project scamp to work on If you get your sites set on one type of fiberglass, your search will be more difficult. Love the look of the boler, but am very pleased with my scamp. They all have their own appeal. Enjoy your search, ask the right questions and be ready to jump. Best of Luck.

Yeah I saw it a couple weeks ago for half, so it's probably a flip. I was second in line to buy it. Still @ 5500 it's a great price for a 16'.

1974 Hunter Compact II

I am soooooooo excited and I already need help. Where do I find the pattern for the canvas for the pop up? My canvas is completely missing and I cannot see any way to attach one.

Hi Chris and welcome to the World of Hunter Campers.


In my 1973 Hunter Compact-II the top boot is 4 pieces of material. all about 14 inches wide. The front & back pieces are 29", the sides are 62 inches and it is all sewn up into one piece. The bottom edge is attached to the vertical walls of the hatch opening with 10-32 screws about every 12 inches, the top edge is fastened on the same way through the top, look and you will see the holes.

It has about a 1" hem top and bottom for reinforcement.

Best bet is to see one that is intact. I may be in Vegas with mine late in June if that's of any help.


An awning or tent shop can knock out one for you for about $300-$400, including screens and covers for the openings.
